Have you ever thought that you may die while riding out a nonterminal illness/virus?

I’m talking about the illnesses you typically would ride out at home (the flu, stomach bug, food poisoning, etc)

Have you ever been in the middle of it and thought: “Ok, this may actually kill me” ?

What was your worst experience?

Just about every Sunday in my 20s.

My temp with first Covid infection got up to 103, and there was a brief moment when I thought... maybe it just keeps going up and I cook to death

Hour later it was back under 100

I spent a few days waking up every 20 minutes or so to head to the shitter for one end, then to the kitchen sink for it to come out of the other. It wasn't even from doing anything exotic.

There's another time that I went to the ER twice for months, before it finally got diagnosed after spending thousands. Fixed with a $7 scrip. Breathing and swallowing problems, randomly throwing up, including at work. Not fun.

Covid infection

The four days in solitary quarantine before discharge after subconsciously de-ventilating myself after 9 days and no one really seemed happy about it but me.

The last time I had the Flu back in 2012, on the 4th night I passed out and went head first into the kitchen table. The crazy thing that’s always stood out to me is several minutes after I regained consciousness I felt 10X better than I did just 10 minutes before. It’s like my body did a hard reset.

A seemingly mild infection can turn septic and you're in a world of shite.

I got the flu the Winter after we moved back home. January 2024.

Sick as I've ever been in my life. I actually thought I was going to die. Temp got up over 103.

I'd imagine that will be what takes me out. I think I'll make it to 85-90, get sick, and just won't recover.

I've gone to the ER twice, once in an ambulance, thinking I was having a heart attack. Once was pericarditis and the other was costochondritis.

I had what I suspect was a kidney stone a month or so ago. If you had offered to shoot me I would have told you to go ahead.

And then, I peed a whole lot and the pain just......stopped.

ETA: That's shortening the story. It was about 16-18 hours of misery.
