California threatening a retaliatory gerrymandering

So how many more Democrat seats can they reasonably squeeze out of their state?

Good luck with that. LA already looks like a hurricane spaghetti model.

This plays easily into the 4-d chess approach by trump to get the rules established through the Supreme Court. Blue/red states have had different rules for several decades. This, texas and a current race based gerry mandering case before the SC should help clean up the mess.d

Most blue states already shot their wad.

Speaking of which, has a date been set for this ruling. I've heard it was 6-3 but no official release.

Not many.
Plus, if they go too far, that raises the question as to whether CA would still be a republican form of government that is guaranteed under Article IV, Section 4 of the US Constitution

If trump can get the census done this year, CA will lose reps left and right. No gerrymandering will help them.

Fook California and Fook Newscum
If Trump said don’t eat dog shite Gavin would have it smeared all over his mouth tomorrow.

They can probably squeeze 3, they’re the only major D state that could get anything.
The issue they face is they have to hold a ballot measure asking voters to change their “independent commission” back to how red states do it.
This would make their motivations super clear and make the other blue states who still have that commission look like cucks

But what about the North East? The insurgent goons have gerrymandering going at 26-0 all to the climate cult loons?

They’re targeting the Central Valley, as usual. They could flip a few with enough changes. It pisses me off because the Valley is fairly red and they’re going to try and eliminate our voice. We’re on an island out here surrounded by a sea of blue insanity.
But this bit from our local ABC affiliate hits back on Newsom:
quote:
"He is affecting the system of independent redistricting that voters in this state have voted on and approved, not once, but twice, in 2008 and 2010, taking that power away from independent commissions, from a commission of citizens and putting it in the hands of politicians to draw overtly political lines. And it's in my mind a violation of democratic norms and potentially a violation of California law," said Lanhee J. Chen, Stanford University fellow in American Public Policy Studies. Chen believes Governor Newsom is pushing for this shift as part of his higher aspiration. "He sees this as an opportunity to bolster and burnish his credentials with democratic primary voters who will determine who the Presidential nominee is in 2028. It's very clear why Gavin Newsom is doing this. He's doing this because he wants to be President, and his naked political ambition has apparently gotten in the way of any instinct toward defending democracy. He talks a lot about the ways in which President Trump is attacking democracy. He's a hypocrite for making the argument in the way that he's made it and certainly given what he's doing on redistricting. I think it's fairly clear that he's a politician first and a public servant last," said Chen.

Maybe because I live in hurricane prone Louisiana, but this made me chuckle.

In the 2024 presidential election, Kamala Harris received approximately 9.3 million votes (58.5%), while Donald Trump garnered about 6.1 million votes (38.3%) in California. Harris won the state's 54 electoral votes.
So, Kamala got 60% of the vote in 2024, and Trump got 40%.
Yet the Dems have 45 seats (87%) to Republicans 7 seats (13%)?
And Dems want to gerrymander even more?

One thing to look for is if Trump can get a new census where illegals are not counted. This will alter the make up of Dem congressional seats a bit as well.

And in Texas in 2024, Trump got 57% and Kamala got 43%.
Yet, the Congressional seat breakdown for Texas is:
Republicans 25 seats (67%) and
Dems 12 seats (33%).
ETA: I see by the down votes that I didn’t make myself clear. I was responding to my own post. I was pointing out that the Texas distribution is much closer the raw vote count than in California. It’s to be expected that a 60/40 split in the presidential vote totals will skew the house seats to an even greater degree towards the winning side, just not to the 87/13 house seat percentage in California. That’s some serious gerrymandering!
