..by a technician. I got 3 extenders and was promised internet issues are over yet tonight I keep getting kicked off internet on PS5 and notice the extenders are blinking red. Before I played the first game and got kicked off I checked the connection status and my PS5 was receiving 95% signal from the router so it shouldve been fine.

Tell me why Fiber internet is so great again.

Plug your computer directly into the router and test the internet. Your result is why fiber is so great.

Your experience beyond that point is predicated on your equipment, which has nothing to do with fiber. If I had to guess, your “extenders” aren’t configured correctly. Call and annoy ATT about it.

My ATT fiber is great. Dump their wifi router. It's shitty equipment. Depending on budget Eero 6 is a good choice. I have a Google system and it's been perfect.

“extenders”

That's why I tell everybody on this board to just drop cable anywhere and everywhere. Interference issues with neighbors, shitty configs, backhaul usage... Just no. You waste more time troubleshooting and trying to explain to a phone rep that whenever your neighbor cooks microwave popcorn you lose signal (leaky microwaves when using 2.4Ghz).

Do I need to be a tech wiz to install it?

Should be really simple. They make these very user friendly. The app will pretty much do it for you.

I will not.

My Computer is not near the router and the computer isnt the issue. My PS5 is literally 7 inches from an extender and being a POS. That's the issue

Will it also require extenders?

Mesh systems are a bunch of nodes that create one network among the various nodes.

What you're calling extenders are basically repeaters that take in the signal and project it, which is a much shittier way to transfer/spread wifi

It comes with 3 mesh points. Just spread those out throughout house and you will have even signal throughout. You can even add more later. Probably unnecessary unless you're pushing like 5k sf.

That's fine. Probably shouldn't complain about your "fiber internet" though, in that case

Feel free to complain to ATT about the equipment they poorly set up to wirelessly broadcast otherwise consistent and speedy fiber internet connection. Unless you want to install your own equipment, as they aren’t going to help you with that

So you know what kind of extenders they gave you?

If they are the AirTies they gave you outdated equipment. A firmware update a few months ago to A&T gateways (at least for Uverse customers) bricked the AirTies extenders.

Extenders are turkey dump. You'll want a mesh system. I have had 1Gb internet from ATT Fiber for 5 years now and will never look back. I can count on one hand how many service disruptions I had. The speeds had slowed, and a phone call to support got me a new gateway and all was great again.

your first mistake was using ATT for extenders instead of buying a cheap, rock-solid mesh system on amazon.

eta and like the other person said, hardwire everywhere possible especially for devices at the opposite end of the house. i dont own a single device with an ethernet port that i don't have plugged in.

I have ATT fiber as well. One easy way to tell whether the problem is on their end or yours is to do a speed test from the router itself. If the speed test from the router is showing your advertised speed, then you know the problem is on your end. It's probably flaky Wifi.

I would never use Wifi for gaming, I don't care what router is being used. Wi-Fi is not reliable and introduces latency.

Wi-Fi is fine for connecting your phone or using it for Netflix on a TV. But I would never use it for a desktop PC or gaming console.

If the router is too far away from your console to hard wire it, well go run you some cat6 cable baw.

How much trouble was it to call and provision your own equipment? I'm about ready to pull the trigger on this.

I'm looking at a Netgear Orbi 770.
