This team is the most talented team LSU has fielded in a number of years. The defense should be much improved with the influx of talent and being the 2nd year under Baker. The offensive skill positions should be improved with 2nd year Nuss and Durham getting healthy and the WRs should be better as well with a healthy Hilton and TFs. The only question mark to me is Oline. From all accounts, the talent seems good enough to hold its own, but the mental side of playing line seems to be lacking. This is not ideal for the opener at Clemson who has one of the best Dlines in the country. I see the line making significant improvements throughout the year with game experience, and hopefully it will not have cost us too many games along the way to keep us out of the playoffs.

It won’t be about protecting Nuss. It’s how well can we run the ball.

We get it. Our o line is inexperienced. We don’t need this thread everyday.

The talent is there individually, it just takes time for OL to gel. And Brad Davis has to do better than last year run blocking. Adequate running game will take the heat off Nuss, open up play action.

What would you prefer? How about let’s talk about the third string punter or the backup long snapper?

As someone has said, the OL has been beaten to death...to be up front, I gave a couple of blows myself. What is more interesting is the drastic reduction in nega-secondary posts. Occasionally there is the clueless one that hasn't kept up with the OBVIOUS improvement. But in general, most knowledgeable posters seem to realize that signing the #1 CB in the class who seems to be college ready and starters from Florida, NC State, and VA Tech should be a drastic improvement. Not to mention the fact that Burns and Ryan are gone and that the remaining LSU players from last season have experience now.

I bet I'm not the only one who is going to keep up with Sage Ryan at Ole Miss. Does he start? Does he see the field to any extent? That will be incredibly interesting to me. I think Womack at Ole Miss might be a decent player but I think the ship has sailed on Ryan.

I don’t think OP said anything about that.

Depends on the OL?

I disagree.

This team will go as far as the defense takes them. The defense, except for a few games in 2022, has been below average since 2020. Even the 2019 defense wasn't very good for most of the season.

We are about 1 week into camp and everyone is freaking out about the OL. They'll need time to gel as a unit. I'm not saying it's going to be the best OL in college football. But if there is one thing BK has a decent track record of, it's producing good OL. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt there.

For far too long the LSU's defense has put too much pressure on the offense to be really good. IF this unit can somewhat return to the types of defenses LSU had prior to 2018, then I'm confident the offense, even with just an average OL, will be good enough.

If you want data to support how important defense is, just look at last year's total D rankings:

1 Ohio St
2 Indiana
4 Texas
5 Penn St
7 Tennessee
10 Notre Dame
16 South Carolina
17 Ole Miss

That's 6 CFP teams and two who were just on the outside looking in.

Give me a top 20 defense and I think LSU will be just fine.

Agree with the defensive statement. The Oline will take a little while to gel and they may struggle a little early on but I think this defense is going to be elite and they will keep us in the game while we work the Oline kinks out. The play calling can adjust to quick hits until they get their act together and if Nuss uses his legs that will keep the opposing defenses honest.

You can say that for every NC contender. Texas just like us is replacing 4 starters and saying the same

I’ve heard Ohio St, UGA and Bama camps say they have get the OL to gel better.

Part of me thinks it’s just the defense keeps getting better and better as you have these freaks that are now playing on the edges and in the Joker position

They have guys running 4.5s lining up at edge and LB

We brought in Alex Atkins as a run game coordinator who had a lot of success at Florida State. I hope we get real push from the interior this year

The OL needs competition. Example. Let’s throw Curne in at left or right guard to mix it up.

Make Chester and Thompson have to fight for it. In all honesty though, wouldn’t be surprised if Curne gets in the lineup later this season.

The Dline will have a big say. If they are dominant then the offense has more leeway
