Do you know what ASYCUDA is? If not please shut up about "who pays the tariffs".

If you had to google it, you have no idea what you are talking about when discussing tariffs.
For the last time. When Trump announced the tariffs on Japanese cars, the manufacturers immediately reduced the wholesale price for cars coming to the US. This enabled the wholesaler to pay the tariff and still maintain their margin AND the original consumer price.
The wholesaler "wrote the check" but the foreign manufacturer paid for it.
Ask yourself, when your teenage kid bought that expresso, double latte, cinnamon infused coffee with their credit card.....and you paid the card at the end of the month...........who actually bought that cup of coffee???????
Its also why Trump is hitting that sweet spot of around 15%, at that margin, companies can eat it to protect their largest market....the US. The targeted larger tariffs: steel, aluminum, copper, drugs, chips he is forcing them to be manufactured locally.
Stop drinking the Kool Aid of "the consumer pays".
The only question that remains is will this make it to 10 responses before someone blames the jews or Epstein

You are wasting your time. We have Tariff experts on here, Roger for example, that took the 15 Minute CNN course on understanding Tariffs. These liberals are programmed based upon whatever CNN and MSNBC is spewing, and they are incapable of being objective. They want it all to burn down.

So not knowing an acronym means you don’t belong in the discussion of tariffs? What if you don’t know what HTS is? Or how elasticities of demand and supply play a role in who pays what percentage of a tariff? Or how surplus is distributed in large versus small open economies? Or a lot of other things that all go into understanding a tariff’s effect on an economy. But, nah. Not knowing one acronym is all it takes.

And we have a winner in ole jyrdis. Its not just an acronym, its the very foundation for which goods are transported.
Explain for the board, any country, any product, the process by which you price it for shipment. Go ahead this should be interesting.......

I think the point he's making is don't listen to an ignorant jackass Dem on this board, or anywhere else, because they will twist and lie and play make believe with your mind to get you to think how they want/need you to think.

Let me guess, you probably visited some website that didn’t understand what the system does and you took its information as valid.
As for your example, it is likely the case that the car manufacturer had enough of a margin to absorb the tariff. But the problem is and always will be the economic incidence, i.e. the price elasticities of demand and supply and who bears the burden. So to play on your words “If you don’t know how to calculate those in a partial equilibrium model, then STFU when it comes to talking about tariffs.”
You should go read any number of studies that have shown the negative impacts of tariffs including what they do to the price of goods. Hiding behind a system designed to more efficiently collect customs revenues and duties and determine valuation is not helping your case. But please, continue to ignore everything else—some of which I have already mentioned—that is vital to understanding how tariffs actually impact an economy.

I really dont care what democrat supporters have to say about anything at this point. You guys had your chance the last 4 years with biden and inflation got into the double digits, so you lost and now we're trying something different. Quit crying about every little thing and just accept that you're going to be sitting on the sidelines for a while.

Change "tariffs" to "increasing the minimum wage" and 99% of them will agree with you, but they can't see it here because Trump. The cult has turned "tariff" into a magic talisman.

Do you know what ASYCUDA is or are you running with the OP who essentially ran with the acronym without telling you what ASYCUDA is?

Even if it ended up costing US consumers a lot more ( which it isn’t) people need to be willing to pay that price to level the playing field and allow manufacturing in America to compete again. Having all of the most important things we need be built in countries that hate us is dangerous as f in the long term.

There is a massive difference between tariff and min wage.
You know this. Min wage at McDonald’s isn’t an international bargaining tool.

If consumers are willing to pay the price as you say then there is no incentive for countries to negotiate the tariffs.

They didn't pay anything. They strategically reduced revenue to protect market share.

If people aren’t willing to pay a certain price, prices will go down. We’ve learned the last few years that businesses will use any excuse they can to raise prices and they will say tariffs are a reason they are raising prices even when exporters are largely offsetting that cost. At the end of the day the trade imbalance is real and we have to get it fixed for America to prosper long term.

but this is my understanding - and all that I care about
I don't give a shite if nobody ever gets another cheap yo-yo from China = or shells out 30 bucks for it if they do.
As I see t - junk will get sorted out and go away - really good stuff will get manufactured here for the added benefit that gives our economy.
AND as our economy improves, some of that production ALSO gets traded overseas thus further improving our economic base.
But I'm no manufacturer or financier - I just respond to what's available in the marketplace - and vote for people with common sense.

That only works for so long. Since you don't see an immediate increase in price, consumers are still buying the product that was targeted, therefore reducing the attractiveness of the domestic made product you intend to promote.
Besides, ASYCUDA is nothing more than a system put into place with centralized data with a payment feature for importers. Importers still pay the tariffs even with ASYCUDA.

These arguments are hilarious.
In order to bring back mfg, the prices of imports will have to rise substantially. If they arent, the tariffs are nothing more than a tax.
If prices dont rise, no return of US mfg.
They cant have it both ways
