I had an employee that occasionally would offer that statement to encourage looking beyond the document in front of us. Work process development required understanding what was in the scope of senders and receivers of a work item in getting the total job done.
A/I gives a quick answer, but no understanding of the associated issues. Best described by a transaction review with an Indian Call Center. Those folks are paid to not think, only read what is on the screen in front of them. Most problems are do to a defect in the processing, yet call center mentality disallows comment.
That call center mentality is blossoming. Large corporations running headlong into the next phase of a/I are mandating that employees not think, but rather implement a/I directions directly . Just watched the Deepwater Horizon movie and the insistence of the lead operator in not shutting down without authorization is a valid example.
Encourage your kids to learn to question and understand the issues not on their desk top. That may give them a leg up and become the one eyed

Did you know Wade Boggs drank 64 beers on a cross country flight?

looks like we got a bunch of clankers here. That quote is from the Dutch Philosopher Eramus in 1500. Still good today. HG Wells actually turned that passage around with his story of a blind community that adapted completely and when invaded by a one eyed, sentenced him to have the vision removed. Wells may have forecasted todays society from a different view.

In the valley of the blind, the one eyed man is king.
Pretty sure that’s the actual proverb.

Well of course he is.
Cyclops are notably fearsome warriors, and would easily lord over a group of sightless peasants

Actually over the past 725 years the wording has slipped around a bit. Concept is unchanged.
Do clankers have anything to add beyond spelling and word sequencing?

Recently told a friend of mine that we’re dealing with an epidemic of people spending all their time doing exactly what their computer says do just to cover their arse. Another event is coming. We’re not allowed to think. I still do, they can just fire me whenever they’re ready.

Not sure why you got so many downvotes. Lot of truth in what you said. And I’ve heard that quote before as well. Good quote.
