Sat at the hospital today for a few hours

Had to sit in the waiting room today at the local hospital while someone I know had to get a procedure done- where i was sitting in the waiting room was a window and on the other side of the window was the outdoor smoking section with picnic tables.
I am amazed at how many overweight, tattooed, pierced obese nurses that sit out there all day in their scrubs smoking cigarettes and cussing all day. It was quite eye opening

There were some fine Georgia peaches walking around in their scrubs but they weren’t hanging out with the fatties in the smoking section

I don't know about them... but a lot of people begin smoking long before they get an education. I started at 12, quit (this last time) at 42 and still lean too much on vapes and pouches to keep from smoking. Smoking starts young and is a hell of a habit to quit.

When I worked at a convenience store, I was amazed at the number of people in scrubs stopping for a 5:30 am cup of coffee and pack of smokes.

Not defending anyone smoking, or defending a nurse and their behavior but nursing is a pretty shitty job when you think about it.
Long shifts, the pay isn't great, the stuff you see, etc. I know they signed up for it, and of course they are attention whores and actual whores but no way I'm wiping someone's arse, or balls, or worse, all to see them die 2 days later

It's imaging center staff that you know will get a bit dirty and crazy. Not too hot, but just enough to make you wonder if someone is getting a charge before the relationship is over.

My last 10 years in hospital the highest percentage of smokers were respiratory therapists.Try and make sense of that.
Very few nurses smoked,the one’s that did mostly worked night shift.

when did that become a thing? my parents have been in and out of hospitals often over the past 4-5 yrs for various things and that's something I notice.
Must be a spandex type material not just the baggy scrubs of yore.

Where is this hospital? Around here, they don't allow any smoking on hospital property. Not that some people don't do it, but you don't see it too often.
