Felt warmer than usual in the house after a trip to the grocery. Checked thermostat and reading 77 degrees and set at 72 with the AC running. Checked the compressor outside which was running. Insulated cooling line from outside condenser unit felt cool and a bit damp which seemed normal.
Called AC repair company(3:30sih) and got someone coming tomorrow.
Turned unit off for a bit at the thermostat. Turned back on and blower and condenser kicked on as it should but room temperature air coming through vents. Left it running and about 20min later it felt like the house was cooling down and check the vents and cold air blowing as normal now.
I then remembered the same thing happened a year ago but it was in May I believe.
Any clue what the issue could be? The AC system was installed in 2019. American Standard silver series.

Sounds like you have a leak.

Frozen coils or drain slightly clogged. Probably frozen coils

Can you open the cover on the evap coil? Is air flowing like normal out of your vents? If not it could be frozen.

Check the drip pan for water. A coil freezing up due to low Freon possible. When you turned it off the ice will melt with a quickness and will temporarily solve the problem.

Do like our wives and turn that thing down to 68 thinking it will blow colder air.
You probably have coils frozen over in the attic due to low freon. Let it sit for an hour or take the attic box panel off and thaw it with a blow dryer.

Drip pan bone dry. Wiped with my finger and dust on my finger.
Opening up to the evaporator coil would be a bit of a chore and not going to mess with. I'll let the repair guy check that tomorrow.

Ok so its just not my wife that thinks that

I had a leak in my system, $2200 later, I had a new evaporator core and a cooler house…

Low on refrigerant or dirty coils. Always check the capacitor as this can cause that issue as well. The way to diagnose is that it is designed to deform the top if it is bad. Super easy fix if that is the issue

My air sits at 77 until at least 9 pm. By morning it will be 73 where I have it set. Very frustrating. I’m told it’s bc of the heat and humidity.

Something is wrong if it cannot keep up

The entire AC system or just the outside unit in 2019?

Especially on an overcast afternoon. I need to get someone to look at it. I have dogs and the intake sits almost on the floor, coils probably need a cleaning. Thanks. And the air isn’t strong coming from the vents in most rooms. A friend who knows air units and could possibly do the work for me said it was likely an insulation issue. Possibly damper bc or air flow not being equal. But I don’t want a friend taking unit apart in case something goes wrong. Capicator is ok bc he replaced it from a supply house last year for me.

6 yr old unit should be under warranty still huh?

72? You killin' hogs in there?

It could mean that your attic is too humid, which can cause issues with the electric terminals on the unit's chipboard in the attic.
This happened to me Sunday morning. I did the same thing, and mine kicked back on.

The entire system.
I did change filters when having the issue. I hope its as simple as that.
The system is pretty efficient. My electric bills for June and July were about $250 for a 2500sf single story house. The AC was working normal when I left the house at 2pm. It never runs for an extended period of time so I'm confident the coils weren't frozen.

Pro tip that I doubt matters to your current issue.
This only applies to electric heat systems, not gas furnaces. Shorted thermostat wiring OR a stuck/sticking contactor OR faulty controller can result in a situation where electric heat coils are energized while the A/C is on.
It is a sneaky fricking problem because vents will blow cool, not cold, and it can be intermittent.
Gas pressures & line temperatures on your refrigerant circuit will be perfectly normal, no clogged filters, everything working fine except for inability to cool to setpoint.
Happens rarely and is a bastard to figure out (first time for sure
