It's really misguided to think limiting the types of food you can purchase with SNAP is somehow going to curb the health crisis in America. That's a cultural issue and a large majority of the population that just either has no clue about nutrition, staying active, and enjoying in moderation. or they simply just dont care.

So if you dont make enough money to cover food expenses, get fricked you eat what the government tells you to eat. However if you make enough money to cover food expenses then by all means eat whatever the frick you want. Such a bizarre mentality.

As if someone's food choices are somehow a direct correlation to the money they make.

You’re right it probably won’t curb the health crisis but people being able to buy garbage like candy and soda on SNAP is pretty ridiculous.

The idea is to cover only necessities and start getting people off SNAP

Why should tax payers fund snacks for fat people?

by the same logic, expanding SNAP to include smokes, booze, Fentanyl and heroine will similarly improve their lives even more.

No one is saying this...

The outrage is the fact that leeches in society utilize our tax dollars to purchase junk food and in enough quantities that many are obese...

It’s free food. You think people should be able to buy Red Bulls with government money? It should be spent on real food to nourish you and your family not a bunch of unhealthy trash that people don’t need.

SNAP is just another in a long line of wasteful government systems where trashy people take advantage of the program, but you can not clean it up because if you try to end the corruption the trashy people state crying that you're trying to force poor people to starve to death.

Waste Fraud and Abuse is the only thing that government is proficient at.

You are so completely lost. SNAP isn’t supposed to be a career and it damn sure isn’t supposed to buy whatever you want. It’s to sustain life while you get back on your feet.

When you take FREE money from the Government, you forfeit your right to FREE choice on how you spend that FREE money.

Plus, the Government gets that FREE money from working taxpayers who pay taxes and receive no refund.

and it is tied to the farm bill so getting Republicans to stand firm on real reforms of the program will cut into the farming welfare, which they fully support...

Are you dense? Why should the US Govt propagate and allow poor people to contribute to their shite diet when the end result is said US Govt will have to shell out money to care for them down the road?

You really think there are people out there that don't know eating shitty food and not exercising is unhealthy?

This is an extremely moronic take.

SNAP stands for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. It is meant to SUPPLEMENT the diets of the poor with NUTRITIOUS food. It is not meant to provide all of their diet. Just because SNAP won't pay for a certain item, doesn't mean they can't have it. They can pay for it with their own money. SNAP should not pay for junk food.

If someone else is paying the bill, there are always restrictions. Just as there are restrictions on your medical care when paid for by Medicare, Medicaid and even private insurance.

There are restrictions on my business expense account - where I can spend it, on what and how much I can spend.

There are even currently extensive restrictions on SNAP and WIC.

So, WTF are you even talking about?

I would go even further. Generic foods only with SNAP.

With both changes you incentivize getting off SNAP
