By personally I mean someone you actually talk to not someone you know of like Mattress Mack who betted $13 million on the Astros.

Guy I work with just placed $12,000 on LSU beating Clemson.

Mine is $1,000 on Mayweather beating McGregor

I took a photo with Mattress Mack, so I feel like we're acquaintances in a way.

Couldn't have gotten great odds on that one with McGregor coming from UFC and making his boxing debut against an undefeated pro fighter with multiple championship belts to his credit.

That fight played out exactly how I figured it would with Mayweather toying around with the guy for several rounds then stepping things up and putting an end to it. No way in hell McGregor deserved to be in the same ring as Mayweather. Just another cash grab by both of them in the end.

Golf buddy of mine turned a $50 preseason bet on the Patriots to win it all into $10K when Vinateiri made the game winning FG against the Rams. We were in Vegas for the SB and we were responsible for makes sure he didn’t get robbed walking down the Strip with $10000 cash in his pockets screaming at the top of his lungs he’d won it.

ETA: I completely misread the point of the thread. I will add that my buddy above let the $10K ride for the Patriots to repeat the next year. He lost it.

I do not discuss amount sir money bet often so the only one I have is a friend that bet $300 on a game in college. He lost and didn’t have the money so he hurriedly placed another bet for $300, won it, and used the winnings to pay off his loss.

He promptly deleted the bookies number and didn’t bet again until online, legalized gambling.

Drunkenly put $1000 on black at Harrahs New Orleans when I absolutely could not afford to. It didn’t hit….

Sports bet-put $600 on Gaethje over Oliveira UFC fight a few years back as a knee jerk decision as they were walking to the ring. He got knocked out

I don’t gamble anymore except the occasional ufc parlay on PPV cards

I have a buddy whos little brother hit big on a college football parlay about 4-5 years ago. He did like a $3000 5-6 team parley and it hit for around $50-$60k. He spent a nice chunk of it renting a suite for him and his dad to watch Burrow play the cowboys that year in Jerry World

When I had no money, somehow I scrounged together like $1,200 or $1,500 when I was in Vegas just to win like $300 on Lennox Lewis over one of the Klitschkos. It was really stupid, Lewis should have lost, but I think cut Vitali's eye or something. Never bet a big favorite like that, the stress is not worth the small return.

Since the online books went live, two bets have saved my butt. I had $5,000 on Nadal French Open 2022 +325 or so and $6,000 on OSU to win the NC last year +450. I am up $12,000 over five years, but without those two bets I would be down about $40k.

The $1,200 I lost on Sinner at the French still stings. I did get about half of it back at Wimbledon.

I’ve had a few bets over a thousand but all were hedged on another app, either to get free bets or hedged free bets that I would win either way.

A friend of my dad put $100,000 on Buster Douglas to beat Mike Tyson. Story I’ve heard was the guy was a compulsive gambler and was in debt to a bookie. He took his last $100k and put it on the fight to pay off his debt.

Years later I remember he died under some strange circumstances.

I knew him but was to young to know how much of this story was true.

Lol ive never heard of someone broke as shite having a "last 100k'

But putting that aside even if the bet was only 10k payout would've been awesome

I still had the blinders on thinking Conor was still unbeatable against anybody that wanted to stand with him. That fight finally made me face facts that he's a shell of his former self. Not to take anything away from Poirier, he was a savage in those fights, but Conor just wasn't near as explosive as he was in his prime.

That being said, i thought he'd be more motivated the 2nd fight and would train to get back to his old ways...wrong again. He came out strong but faded fast, he was getting KO'd again broken leg or not

Never have bet more than $20 on a game. Haven't bet on a game since the mid 80's. Have lost as much as $200 at the horse races in Bossier City and Lone Star Park, but that includes admission to an area with a buffet. It was worth the entertainment value.

One of the betting sites was basically offering a free bet. So, if you bet $1,000 and lost, they would give you an additional $1,000 to place another bet. I figured I had a decent shot of getting one out of two bets correct.

So, I placed $1,000 on a game whose point spread just didn’t seem to make sense. I forget the game. It was definitely college football. I won the bet and didn’t need their extra $1,000. As I recall, I won $950 on the bet.
