Foster Care - More Than 400,000 Children Are in Foster Care on a Given Day in the U.S.

We are constantly reading/hearing about all the foster parents abusing the children they were fostering. They are obviously not being vetted thoroughly before given the approval for fostering these children. It's sickening!

FORT WHITE, Florida (WCJB) - Two parents and their two adult children from Columbia County are being charged with aggravated child abuse.
The couple had nine children at their home, five are biological and four are adopted, with ages ranging from 7 to 16 years old.

When investigators arrived, the biological children were playing while the adopted children did chores. Many of the children were illiterate, and some didn’t know their own birthdays.
According to the arrest report, the children shared details about many instances of abuse, including being confined in a make-shift cage and sexual assault.
One child described instances of abuse where the mother would press plywood on their chest and spray vinegar in their face.

These weren't just foster parents. They were allowed to adopt four kids.

I know, I just don't understand how they were approved for both adoption and foster care.

Some people foster for the money only. They should die.

Seems like the trash in the OP expounded on that a bit.

This kind of shite makes me wanna cry. I picture someone doing this kind of thing to my one year old and all I can feel is rage.

The Foster Care System has failed these poor babies.

Wife and I (no pics) were foster parents for several years. It’s sad how the system is set up. DFS workers flowed through like water. All just wanting to get a kid placed and off of their books. They would tell you anything you wanted to hear to secure a placement. The worst were the just out of college social workers who would try to tell someone how they should parent. Straight out of a text book. Bio parents always getting multiple chances to get their act together. (And rarely do). I hate to say it but I am bitter at the whole process. We adopted 2 out of fostering and I don’t regret going through all of the red tape. But I am done. The system needs rebuilt. These kids are getting churned through like cattle. So sad.

Foster care systems are chronically underfunded in pretty much every state. The system relies on layers of workers from homes, to case workers to supervisors of case workers, all of which are absolutely essential for the safety of the kids. When a case worker has 150 kids in 150 homes to supervise, then none get adequate supervision.
This is a system that requires real and meaningful commitment. The kids are never to blame for the failure of their actual parents. But we are all to blame for not committing to the kind of system that will give those kids the opportunity to be productive and functional adults.

As an adoptive parent this makes me irrationally angry.
These poor kids deserve better. But the system in a lot of ways is broken. If you wanna adopt/foster, it's better to go through a private agency like we did juat due to the vetting process being a lot more stringent.

The foster care system is full of fraud and conspiracy from the top state CPS personnel down to the foster parents and their family members. Too many do it solely for the income.

Seems we need to handle this issue before taking in more "refugees" and "asylum seekers."

Based on friends I know who did similar things, the system seems to be set up to make fostering easy but adopting hard. I don't know how federal monies flow into the foster care system, but I sometimes wonder if the system rewards numbers and the state ends up financially better by keeping kids in foster care.
And bless you for stepping up; you deserve respect for doing that.

Sounds like we had the same experience. We stopped fostering because of the broken system, not because of the kids. Most everyone who went through the classes with us were in it to adopt, so once they were able to do that they dropped out, but we had 3 bio kids. We just wanted to help out kids.
I’m not sure how to fix the system (other than limiting the chance they give bio-parents to get custody) but it’s beyond fricked.
