Some names thru the 70s to the early 00s
Robin Williams
Steve Martin
Bill Murray
Chevy Chase
Dan Akroyd
John Belushi
John Candy
Richard Pryor
Eddie Murphy
Chris Farley
Adam Sandler
Jim Carey
Will Ferrell
Vince Vaughn
Gene Wilder
Mel Brooks
Rodney Dangerfield
Leslie Nielsen
Norm McDonald
David Spade
Chris Rock
Rob Schneider
Dana Carvey
Mike Myers
John Cleese
Graham Chapman
Etc
If I were to name whoever is the current top comedians in movies, I honestly could not name one? The only names I can sort of think of are the Sunny in Philly cast, Jonah Hill, maybe Adam Samberg. That’s about it at best.

They're all doing podcasts where they talk about how funny Norm MacDonald was.

Comedy has been regulated to streaming and television now. Seems that studios aren't willing to bank on comedies so much anymore since they never do well overseas. Even movies like The Hangover and 22 Jump Street made a majority of their money domestically

Comedy is not acceptable anymore, too many people would get their feelings hurt

Most of that list came from SNL, and the talent of that show over the past ~15 years is nowhere near the epic level it used to be.
Sudeikis, Hader, Forte, Samberg - all very funny and have moved on to some great and acclaimed projects since. But none really have the legendary star power of the many of the alums from the heyday.

It's hard to be a comedian in the age of woke.

There have been no good comedy movies for new comedic actors to star in the past 10 years at least. I think that's changing...hopefully.
Baw, Rob is ok, but legendary? Come on.

I think Danny McBride can be considered legendary.

Media is too fragmented for one guy to become a big deal nationally anymore. Rather than like 5 mega comedy stars everyone knows instead we have 100 funny guys all doing different things in their own niche.

SNL is irrelevant. A lot of comedians that made good comedies learned how to write on SNL. Comedians also used to write on sitcoms which are mostly shite now too.
That paired with comedians making money from podcasts and being able to tour successfully has killed good comedy actors. Also, Hollywood is filled with woke pussies who are terrified of funding anything that might offend anyone.
Netflix is funding some shows now, hopefully that trend continues.

Are you sure you know who Danny McBride is?

I like him. But I think the knock is that he basically just plays himself in every role...just as a slightly different character.

Yes, he’s the Kevin Costner of comedy actors. Same dude every film. It was fine in eastbound and down but every single thing? No thanks.

Same as Adam Sandler or Chris Farley but McBride has produced exponentially funnier material
The real answer to this is they’re all doing podcasts now. Comics don’t start in standup then move to SNL or a sitcom then do movies anymore. They sit around and jerk each other off on their podcasts.

Dude, have you seen Tommy Boy? Farley could make you cry in some scenes. Dude, have you seen Uncut Gems or Punch Drunk Love? Sandler has more range than you give him credit. McBride is the same white trash fella in every role. It’s funny every once and awhile, but please don’t compare that chucklehead to Sandler or Farley. Funnier than those two? Fans of McBride sure are dumb as shite.
