We have a ton of talent from recruiting both high school and the portal really well the last few years. A lot of these guys did great in the bowl game, and they’ve gotten stronger and better during the offseason. Also, Braelin Moore and Josh Thompson will be great transfers for us.

I think these guys might surprise everyone this year by being hungrier than last year’s OL. Last year’s guys were NFL-caliber talents, but they seemed unmotivated and sluggish at times. That’s one of the reasons they sucked at run blocking so much.

These young guys are talented and excited to show everyone what they got. We gonna be good this year, baby. Real good

I hope you right. If that’s the case LSU should go far.

I’m not even worried about Thompson. Would have to have some really bad days in full pads for me to get worried. Stats says he has only given up 2 sacks in 833 pass blocking attempts and didn’t give up a sack in the last 18 games he has played.

The OL didn’t even wear fricking pads. Can we relax shitting on the OL?

If you’re right then I think LSU wins the whole thing. Everything hinges on the O line. I tend to agree with you’re take on last years group btw

How? WC had 7 false start penalties, nearly one per game. We were 104th in rushing last year

Feels like some reliable analysts talked about how predictable our scheme was. Hopefully we keep teams more unbalanced

Agree.

Run blocking should be a lot better. I think Alex Atkins hire was huge

They are certainly big enough to do some damage. Looking at the depth chart, they are all 6-3 - 6-7 and all 300+...those are some big dudes! Now the question is, how is their footwork and how fast are their hands?

Gonna get probably the best D-line we see all year on August 30th.. can't wait to see it in person.

Pyburn said the only way to make the dl better is making them better. This defense the way it's shaping up is going to be hell. The old saying, iron sharpens iron. They will get better just hope it's enough to give nuss time to throw and keep him off his arse.

Very very possible, 95% of this board never played or coached offensive line. The problem with last year was completely and totally at the center position, which was due to injuries and unfortunately the key position on the line in college, (not the left tackle like everyone thinks)

Every team with any talent attacked us right through the middle and just avoid our tackles. I think DJ Chester had to play out of position at center and until the end of season he missed more blocks and assignments than he got right. Bama was reading him or signals or something but on the infamous Nuss fumble in bama game right before half that killed us he completely missed his assignment and that was guy that sacked Nuss and caused the fumble. I saw that live. He just isn’t a center he is a guard. Not his fault.

So our line wasn’t really able to play as a functional unit until end of the year. So all that talent etc didn’t matter in a lot of the big games.

If they can stay healthy and play as a unit the line will be fine and could become a strength of the team.

Just delete the second paragraph.

I do think o-line will be a strength by the end of the season. I hope they gel quickly.

Do you think running a zone read with a pocket QB had a significant part in our struggles to run the ball last year?

Why do you guys keep acting like it’s a cardinal sin to criticize last year’s OL? They underwhelmed and underperformed for most of the year.

It’s ok to admit that even though several of them were drafted into the NFL based on potential.

Last year's O-line was not good at run blocking. they NEVER got a push... they were not aggressive.
great pass blockers, very talented, but they did not have the ability on 3and 1, to put their hand in the dirt, and steam roll the defensive line. they just couldnt do it.

That's why I asked the question above. They were great in pass protection with a QB that was not very mobile. So maybe the running game struggles had more to do with scheme and less to do with talent. I don't think they were as bad at run blocking as the numbers showed. Just my opinion.

They were ineffective at times for a few reasons none of which were that they were unmotivated or sluggish.

Also, those guys have nothing to do with your post about this year's line.
