It all just depends on how many games Zion plays this year

And I'm tired of pretending otherwise

Jordan Poole?
Herb?
Trey?

Yeah theyre all nice nice players.

And it won't mean shite unless Zion can play.

When he played 70 games we won 49 games.

When he played 30 we were in the lottery.

Are we screwed? Probably. But until it happens I'll enjoy the possibility of two seasons ago.

The one thing that stood about to me about the Joe Dumars hire was the health department. Hopefully Zion be healthy this season.

quote:

Dumars says the team has launched a thorough review of its medical and rehab operations — part of an effort to better understand what went wrong and what must change. “We’ve assessed every single injury to every single player,” Dumars said in an interview with The Times-Picayune’s Rod Walker. “We’ve gone back over every one and tried to decipher what was a fluke, and what we might’ve been able to handle better internally.”

Nah, we need Trey and Herb to be healthy as well to be good. If the three of them each play 65 games, we're a playoff team. But Zion can't do it without them.

Poole, Bey, Jose, Missi, and Looney round out my expected quality rotation. We obviously need those guys to play a lot as well, but they aren't nearly as important as our big three.

Trey is going to average 24/6/4 and take that next step to being a true #2 guy. We need Z to be active on defense. If he plays hard both sides of the court he can easily be a 27/9/5 player. Its all about our guard play that will dictate if we are good or terrible. In a perfect world Dejounte is ready day 1 and Poole goes to that 6th man role he was great in with Golden State. A bench rotation of Poole, Jose, Bey and Looney would be really solid and that’s before you factor in the rookies. Hopefully Queen can contribute immediately off the bench but I can see Fears needing some time in the G League.

Zion played 70 games two seasons ago. And, yet, half this board is my utterly convinced that it can't possibly happen again.

That season was the outlier. He's played 6 years in the NBA and he's exceeded 30 games played twice(61 games in 2020-21, 70 games in 23-24). Can it happen? Sure. Is it likely? History says no.

Remove Looney from the list. He's not a quality rotational player anymore. Sad that we dont have a quality big on this team, with the exception of Z. Hopefully Missi takes a big leap.

Looney is only 29 and he's only going to be a 17-20 minute player. He still has plenty in the tank he's just very undersized in the West where every team is huge. I really hope Matkovic can make a step up because he's athletic as hell and can run the court as a small ball 5.

I can see Matkovic playing some solid minutes. We have a good rotation, especially since we'll be going small a lot, only playing one big.

Conventional wisdom is that either Zion or Murphy will the de facto "4" in most line ups. I'm a bit disappointed that Murphy hasn't filled out to be able to play more of a stretch 4 role, which should be his natural progression as a player. It's the same issue we had with Ingram, who struggled to add bulk and muscle. If he's dedicated to a lifting program and developing his body, that's where he should go. Hopefully they keep working on him and get him there eventually..

History and simple math will give you the answer to this.

You think that we're paying him $8 million this season as a waste? To babysit Poole? That ain't no minimum contract like we had last season for Theis.

The center position should be somewhat improved this season, with Looney an upgrade over Theis and a stronger Missi.

That doesn't mean that it's a strength of the team, of course, because it's not, but it is an improvement.

Everyone wants Zion to be healthy and dominant.

It is delusional to think it is actually going to happen. It has NEVER happened. Yes, one year he played 70 games and in the game that mattered the most, he sustained a hamstring injury. A totally avoidable injury if he was in shape.

Zion is an unserious person. He is a coddled child. He's not going to all of a sudden grow up at 25 years old. He has already earned $115 million, not including endorsements. He's good. What's the motivation?

Last year was the "he's a new father and this will make him become professional" year. This year is the "Joe Dumars finally got through to him" year. What will it be next year?

I didn't say anything like that. I said our seasons success depends on how many games he can play. That's all.

If Zion plays 70 healthy games this roster should be competing for at worst the 7 seed IMO.

And the sky is blue.

Sorry, I don't mean to be a smartass. I don't think anyone would argue with that.

What does Vegas have on this 70 game thing? Over and under? Will Willie/Joe even play him 70 games if healthy?
