loved me some Sabbath/Ozzy, it's pretty amazing how in his hay day he was considered the evil, anti- fill in the blank, but with his passing he's being given the respected loss of an elder statesman type of sendoff

He was public enemy number one in this country when he pissed on the Alamo back in the early 80’s. Pretty amazing to see the adoration now.

Kind of amazed at this public funeral for him. Is Brian May playing the guitar like in the AI version of his funeral?

That's because most of the people who thought he was the devil himself are dead. The ones sending him off are the ones that grew up listening to his music.

Ozzy was a professed Christian

Tony is an atheist but he openly praises the ideas that are introduced by Christianity

im always shocked by how many people have zero comprehension skills, or apparently don't listen to the words of songs. master of reality, outside of 'sweet leaf' , is an overtly christian album.

similar to when people play 'born in the usa' or 'this land is your land' as patriotic anthems

It's interesting how some Black Sabbath songs have Christian themes and lyrics, especially the ones where Geezer Butler wrote the lyrics. War Pigs includes the lines "Day of Judgment, God is calling, on their knees the war pigs falling."

Check out these lyrics from After Forever, which is an explicitly anti-atheist song:

"Will you still sneer when death is near / And say they may as well worship the sun?"

"You had the chance but you turned it down / Now you can't retrieve"

"Perhaps you'll think before you say that God is dead and gone / Open your eyes, just realize that he's the one / The only one who can save you now from all this sin and hate / Or will you still jeer at all you hear, yes I think it's too late."

you're not wrong, but I think his reality show did a lot to make him relatable and dispel that image. And if you see recent pictures of him with his grandkid, you realize, for all of his outlandishness, he was no different than anyone else. Just an old mortal man.
