The Los Angeles Chargers are facing a lawsuit from one of their fans stemming from the team playing in Brazil against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 1. According to Alex Schiffer of Front Office Sports, the fan, who is a season-ticket holder, is suing the Chargers for false advertising and breach of contract.

The lawsuit is centered around the Chargers having one of their home games in Brazil after advertising that they'd have nine true home games in 2025, including the contest against the Chiefs, months before the Brazil game was announced.

Los Angeles is supposed to issue a refund if the team ends up not playing one of its home games at SoFi Stadium, per team policy, but the plaintiff, Devin Abney, says he was denied a refund.

"If the [team] play the game elsewhere than SoFi Stadium or if it is cancelled and not rescheduled, the sole remedy shall be refund of the original ticket purchase price,” the policy states.

But Front Office Sports also points out that the Chargers "don't charge for full-season tickets on a per game basis, and season ticket agreements often include language warning that the NFL may move a home game."

Sole remedy - refund of ticket price

Team, "Your ticket price is not per game, but per season and we lied, so frick you!"

Is that about right?

I hate these international games

NFL fans need to band together and boycott them

I for one will not be watching any of the international games again this year

Play some preseason games in other countries, but leave the regular season games where they belong in the United States

If the tickets were priced “per game,” then a game with the Chiefs and being able to see Mahomes play would be the highest priced ticket on that schedule.

I did not click on this expecting to agree with the lawsuit but I hope he wins. That’s pretty fricked up they won’t refund him.

Valiant effort, but this probably won't go anywhere.

So they still charge full price for season tickets AND they move a home game to Brazil, where they will collect revenue from ticket sales to that game. Slick way to double dip

Sure, but since they’re not a refund of 1/10th the season ticket package seems appropriate. And the team is coming out ahead over refunding a higher priced single game item

This part seems the most damning. Don’t charge me for what you say will be 9 home games and then end up only giving me 8

It’s interesting because at least at Alabama that’s how it’s been done historically.

AU/LSU/TN were different face values for season ticket holders than Southern Miss or whatever, but now with all digital tickets they no longer print a ticket price so maybe they’re going to the NFL model as well?

LSU used to basically charge a flat fee for season tickets, but each game had an equal face value. So the season ticket value was just number of games x the ticket price (8x$50=$400, etc).

They changed the individual face value for tickets around 2009-2010 or so because that’s what other schools in conference were doing (Bama).

Ultimately this lawsuit hinges on the stated refund policy. Which should be pretty cut and dry if it says what the lawsuit alleges.

It's amazing how a league as horribly run as the NFL is still as popular it is. They actively seek to frick over their own fans as often as possible and yet it's more popular than ever. Being a monopoly with an emotionally attached fan base must be nice.

Wait. Are the chargers really trying to charge season ticket holders for the game in Brazil?
