The "worst weather of the year" - up North vs down South

Been lots of chatter lately about the heat wave across the south and other parts of the country, and when I lived in Chicago and talked about moving to South Carolina a lot of people talked about the heat and how unbearable it was. Probably safe to say that most would say this is the "worst weather of the year" here.
But I had a suspicion that even with really hot weather down here I would still be able to be outside and doing fun things. Let's compare the two:
"Worst weather" of the year in Charleston; over the last four days I have:
- Hung out by the pool and went swimming
- Sat on my balcony at night and drank some beers and listened to tunes
- Sat on my balcony in the morning for a few hours working
- Spent the entire day on the water drinking beers, swimming, hanging out on the beach, cruising the ICW
- Sat outside at a beer garden
- Went to an outdoor concert
"Worst weather" of the year when I lived in Chicago; this would be those mid-winter days where there was little sunlight temps would be in single digits or teens with a single digit windchill I would:
- Do nothing outside, moving as quickly between two heated indoor places as I could
So my theory has been proven correct. I like being outside and do that year round these days
tl;dr I'll take the worst weather of the South over the worst weather up North

I can't imagine making it through either climates without creature comforts like heating and AC. Early humans, legends.

There is something nostalgic about summer evenings in the south that I really love.

frick Chicago in the winter

Duh. Everyone knows this. Anyone down south bitching about heat has never faced the polar opposite.

The bugs are one thing, but to OPs point, you can achieve equilibrium with the climate of a muggy summer evening in LA. You do that one February evening up north and you might be a popsicle by sundown.

I'm getting the sense that it's another level for you guys. I actually love normal summer days here. shite, I go for runs at 3 in the afternoon when it's 92 degrees out

I would venture to say our worst weather is when we have hurricanes destroy everything but that’s me

People apparently figure it out. Go to any good golf course down here on a hot July or August afternoon and you're playing a 5 hour round due to the crowd.

The snow is pretty for 3 minutes and then it turns into the gray slop and when it gets really cold that slop freezes into gray and black ice mounds that you trip over because people don't clear their sidewalks and the plows don't really come through. You can never enjoy the snow up there. Temps in the 20s and 30s with outdoor activities like skiing, sledding, fishing, etc...sure, that's awesome. But I can get to that if I want to on with a 3-4 hour flight.

He was comparing day to day weather, not natural disasters.

I'm somewhat comfortable until the temps hit 94-95 degrees. At that point, it's like running on a treadmill in a steam room.

I figured that was a given but alas...

Well, I moved as quickly as I could between air conditioned places today.

So you just ignored the rest of my post, and the point of it?

Charleston is right at the ocean. Most of Louisiana is farther inland. You guys will get the seabreeze to an extent. In LA the breeze can be nonexistent for days. I'm not much of a fan of Chicago either.
SoCal has its detractors and its expensive as hell, but the weather is so much better even in the summer. You have to watch out for the Santa Ana's more in the fall....usually. I have a friend that lives in Southern New Jersey about an hour or so southeast of the Philly area. It's an underrated place

Hottest time of the year equals pool time here in Texas
Worst weather of the year in Wisconsin means you're stuck in your house and the only solace you can find is you hope you had some forethought and bought enough booze for an infantry unit.

North vs South isn’t a clear distinction. Not all climates are that easily described.
For instance Chicago sort of sucks in both summer and winter. I left Colorado last winter for a short trip to Chicago. It was almost twenty degrees warmer in Chicago than it had been in CO but it felt 30 degrees colder.
I’m pretty much over being in Florida during the summer time. I’m typically in Florida for the winter but I absolutely think the Texas, Louisiana, Florida summer is way worse than the Colorado winter.

I grew up in GA and have lived in SC for over 20 years. Every other summer or so it hits 100 degrees … as long as I can remember.
In places like Boone NC, the summers are awesome as it’s 75-80 in the summer. From October to March it’s a block of ice.
I’ll take the heat.
