President Donald Trump on Monday reduced to less than two weeks his deadline for Russian President Vladimir Putin to either reach a peace deal with Ukraine or face massive “secondary tariffs” on Moscow’s trade partners.
Trump previously gave Putin a 50-day deadline, which was set to expire in early September.
But he signaled Monday that things were taking too long, saying “I’m going to make a new deadline of about ...10 or 12 days from today.”
“I’m disappointed in President Putin,” Trump said in Scotland alongside British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
“Russia and Ukraine — I would have said five times we had a deal,” Trump said. “I spoke to President Putin a lot. Got along with him very well.”
“Then President Putin launches rockets into a city like Kyiv and kills a lot of people — in a nursing home, or wherever — and there are bodies lying all over the street,” he said.
“There’s no reason they’re waiting,” Trump said. “I want to be generous, but we just don’t see any progress being made.”
He later said that he likely will formally announce the revision in the deadline “tonight or tomorrow,” adding that the U.S. would impose sanctions along with the secondary tariffs.

We should let China take over Taiwan and Russia take Ukraine.its too much money.
Think of all the money saved if they had just let Hitler take Europe!

Will the secondary trade partners include the European nations funding Russia's war through purchase of Russian energy - like Germany?

On the surface this seems dumb...but damn if Trump hasnt been winning every time

The big question is would Russia even care about these "secondary tariffs" past results have shown that they won't.

Russia depends heavily on military supplies from North Korea since its factories can not supply enough weapons. For sanctions to be effective, NATO has to stop Putin's allies somehow.

NATO states are funding Russia's war. They are buying more Russian energy then they are sending to Ukraine.
NATO states ARE Putin's allies.

Putin has all but said he is not conceding Russian territory in Ukraine.
We will be talking about this shite a year from now.

Are you so sure?
Europe has been funding a significant portion of the war and presumably could choose to continue doing so. Also, even if Russia rolls toward Kyiv, that doesn't guarantee a quick and easy capitulation by Ukraine. And even after Russia takes control, how sure are you that guerilla warfare would not continue? Russian occupying forces would continue to be be required.

Tariffs?
The USA should be marshalling US and European military forces on Russia's borders in preparation for a military campaign with the objective of regime change in Russia.
Russia deserves to have US, French, German, Polish, British and Hungarian military forces on campaign inside Russia, driving to the East.
World War 3, you say? I say, BRING IT ON, PUTIN. Make Peace, Putin, or suffer military invasion of Russia.

Russia might still defeat Ukraine, but it has already lost the war.
Economically it can only keep up its war economy in the short term. And if we punish their trade partners the time will be even shorter.
The Russian economy will collapse within months when it tries to transform from war to peace unless Putin can strip Ukraine and send the spoils to Moscow.
Putin cannot defeat Ukraine before his war economy collapses.
Russia is completely F-ed! Trump is hoping to speed up Russian withdrawal so that the collapse occurs during the war to peace transition.
This is important to avoid Putin lashing out in desperation trying to save his own arse during the war economy collapse!
