Pool lights

I’m about fed up with these goddamn pentair globrites. I can’t keep one alive for more than a few months. No electrical issues, they just leak and have visible rust in them. I keep getting hosed on the warranty because I DIY.
Has anyone switching to microbrites? I’m really hesitant to give pentair anymore money as shitty as these are. Or has anyone tried the jasco compatible ones?

I don’t use my light often
Mine is just two basic lights - we’ve been in the house 8 years with no problems
But don’t get me started on the landscape lighting

Same thing happened to us, 2 in the pool and 1 in the hot tub... ALL 3 went out less than a year after we had our pool installed.

I don’t think mine work anymore. They definitely don’t sync. I’d have 3 different colors and they never would go back to reset. I quit using them.

not much better results with the Hayward color logic. 4.5 years and we've replaced each of them twice. 3 year warranty but we are covering the bill now.

I have the microbrites, not an issue after 4 years, but must say we dont run them very often. I just dont like the color/brightness or something about them. Just not very relaxing, neighbors have the old fashioned big pool lights and it is much softer lighting that I enjoy.
We only put them on when kids are swimming at night, or maybe if we have people over.

Just had our pool lights replaced few weeks ago. From what I understand, they were installed when pool was built 8 or so years ago. I suppose that’s a decent lifespan.
They worked fine when we moved here last year and good colors. Starting this spring, they quit syncing correctly. Purple and red became dull pink. All the blues and greens were one dull green. And one light was very dim.
I decided to pull the trigger, though it cost a pretty penny. But I like having the pool flash red, white, blue for July 4th and having lights purple and gold during football season weekends. And I use them quite a bit if we’re sitting out back late evenings. We have 3 niche-less pool lights and a separate spa light… I don’t know which brand though

I had visions of purple and gold/yellow lights when we had our pool installed with the IntelliBrite LEDs. Afterwards, we find out they don’t do yellow. WTF??
Five years later, three in the pool are all dead. Only the spa light still works. No way in hell I’m paying those crazy prices to replace them.

Ours has setting called “emerald rose”… unexpectedly it looks golden. I use it in the spa and make the pool lights purple. Together they look almost perfect (for LSU fan).

Good to know. I don’t think it’s a use issue. All of mine have failed from leaking. I’ve had zero burn out. They all have water and rust in them when they go out.

What’s the going rate for that?

I replaced all of mine by myself. They are flawed and apparently pentair knows about the issue but they don’t gaf.
I bought the lights off Amazon and a snake to fish them through the conduit. Lights were 2k. Saved 3k installling them myself after about 2 hours of labor with my son. I sealed every single seam on the lights with clear NP1 several times prior to installing (read that tip online). Dont wanna jinx myself but 2 years in and no water in them yet. First ones started going out at 1.5 years.

I paid about $2200 for lights and installation labor. Also took them about two hours in total. Maybe quicker.
We use the lights a lot and really like them. It’s very worth it for me, though I understand people who don’t use them or want to pay to replace.

Who did you use for your lights. I need my 3 lights replaced as well. Pentair.

These are such a racket. I don't have a pool but I've helped on my dads lights plenty of times. I've never understood how they can't make them to where you just drain the pool part of the way down and replace a $100 sytem very easily. Its just a racket to rake people and force them to use their pool guys.

Tropical Pool Services. They’re based in Mandeville but service New Orleans metro. They built the pool so I contact them when I need anything.

Apparently there is an off market brand that fits the pentair niche. Seamless so won’t leak. They are on Amazon and cheaper like 349 per. Changing them is very easy. Just need to tie them to the wire and fish them through the conduit. I did it with ease first time…..

There is a company out of Texas called waycoolpool that makes replacement lights. I had leaking colorlogic lights and these worked great to replace the pool and spa lights at about half the cost. They are completely sealed with clear epoxy so I don't think leaking should be an issue. Hopefully it doesn't cause any long term issues from heat retention, but they have a pretty beefy metal base that should make a good heat sink. So far they work and look great but I had to add an outdoor box near the pool equipment to house the control module.

Globrites are terrible...each one died once during warranty period and was replaced with a new globrite...then, after warranty period ended, the replacement globrites also died over time so I replaced them all with microbrites ...I complained enough that I got the microbrites for free, and just had to pay for installation. All this happened over a three year time frame.
So, far, one of the microbrites are acting up after a year (ie, not being the color it us supposed to be)...but won't be surprised if I have issues....I think Pentair sucks.
