This has become a weekly occurrence, maybe someone at the state transportation department can start working on solutions

I really don’t know what it is about I-12 but it’s the absolute worst stretch of interstate I’ve driven on in the country

I drive from Ponchatoula to Slidell 4 days a week and I can tell you what the issue is. People driving like maniacs weaving in and out of traffic.

There’s also some treacherous on and off ramps

Factor in we’re not the best drivers as a whole to start with, then add in a big sprinkle of distracted driving….boom.

Literally.

In order to keep costs down many trucking companies have hired Dei level drivers. As with other industries this has consequences.

I find this true of I-10 basically anywhere from Pensacola to Houston. It's no surprise how bad muy car insurance was when we lived in Louisiana. Every year I drive basically the length of I-10 at Christmas to visit family and it is amazing how much better the drivers are west of Houston and especially San Antonio.

Add a concrete barrier between right lane and middle/left lane and designate big rigs travel in right lane and then we identify the exact problem.

Whole lot of dudes with white sunglasses and loud pipes running late to their jobs in that stretch. If you aren't doing 90 you're going too slow

I drove back and forth to BR from Hammond every workday for 20 years. I’m shocked the law of averages didn’t catch up to me and I made it out alive. There is no question that that drive was the most dangerous thing I’ve ever done and I did it twice a day.

never again…if I have to go that way I take 190 now, and give myself plenty of time

I didn’t realize it was that hard to drive on a straight road.

Several decades ago I would have nominated a long segment of I-10 in West Texas for having a worse drive, not because of accidents, but because the road was in terrible shape and had been for such a long time.

I was bouncing along in a Toyota (a friend's car I was driving to Arizona for her) and I noticed that I was the only car using the right or left hand lanes westbound. All the trucks and local cars were driving on the pull over lane on the right. And they knew what they were doing: it was a much smoother drive.

In my experience that’s the result of trucks trying to pass each other at 0.5 miles an hour and people driving 55 in the right lane causing trucks to have to get in the left lane where they clog it up for miles.

Country boys in trucks and Nissan Altima types of people. Have a lot in common.

Aurora is running Autonomous Commercial trucks on I-45, between Dallas and Houston.

Would it work on I-12? Aurora Commercial Transportation

Yep. If the left lane was cleared this wouldn’t be an issue.

Big rig drivers must sweat bullets while driving in Louisiana, where personal injury attorneys have created a winning-the-lottery litigious atmosphere to enrich themselves.

Has to be a factor!

Or, maybe someone with the State Troopers could start enforcing speed limits and aggressive driving that causes the wrecks. Not sure what else would help make a perfectly flat, straight road safer.

Last 2 Saturdays I drove on I-12 I saw more of them than usual. A lot. I can’t imagine what a weekday would look like.
