Parent sues Little League over ejection/suspension; Wins

Kid bat flips on the go ahead home run, umpire ejects him for unsportsmanlike/taunting/horseplay judgement call. By rule, he’s suspended for the next game, which is the New Jersey State Championship. Dad is a lawyer and sues. Judge agrees, citing promotional videos from Little League itself as recent as last year, with similar bat flips and no calls. Kid gets to play in championships, loses 10-0 lol.
I have no problem with what the dad did. Common sense says the umpire pulls the kid and coach aside and issues a warning. “Hey guys, don’t do that again, it’s not safe, it can get the other side riled up, and it’s little league. Anything but yes sir, won’t happen again and then you eject the kid, or if he does it again”
Then we never hear about it.
Little leagues response was also a load of bull. They promote the bat flips on their videos, but then they say it’s problematic to overturn such a call because lack of respect for the umpires call. Nah; you did the umpire wrong already, just say yeah, we realize the mixed messaging and inconsistency.
And that’s to me the biggest problem in youth sports, the inconsistency of rules, umpires/officials, tournament directors. Use common sense and be consistent.

The kid is a total douche . The parents are more arse wipes. Hit a homerun, round the bases, and act like you've been there before. Back in my day, you get jumped in the parking lot after the game by showing up everyone. Totally classless.

The biggest problem in youth sports is helicopter parents like the dad. Kid threw the bat 15 feet in the air. It wasn’t a flip, it was a throw. About the time that lands on a kid who runs out to celebrate, we have a major problem. Safety is covered in the LL rule book under section 9 I believe.
You think the biggest issue is inconsistency with umpires and rules? There’s a massive official shortage because of douchebag parents. Do you think $50 a game is going to attract elite umps? That’s what I get paid. I do the best I can, I study the rules, and reach out for resources when I can. That said, we all work a 9-5. Hell, more than half the coaches don’t know the damn rules anyway.

I see you ignored the fact that little league promoted bat flips. Let’s not forget that this whole thing could have been a warning and a conversation. I’ve umpired with guys who want to cause a scene and flex, I typically do not come out to help them then when a coach gets up in their face.

Looks like ill have to boycot the llws again this year! Such a shame too, it used to be the purest form of baseball there is. It started when they bowed the knee and let girls play against boys!

Do you know the kid? Calling him a douche just for bat flipping at that moment let the kid have fun. These kids see it from college to the pros. If you don’t like it, don’t give up a homerun.

Its all about sportsmanship. I am old school dude. No way would my kid act like that. It's why travel ball and the people that run it, are a bunch of losers. Yes the kids should have fun. That's what its all about. I would have told the pitcher to plunk him next time. Hot dog around, suffer the consequences. Can't stand any parent who condones that kind of behavior towards their own children. Suck it

If you are an umpire then you know ejections are at the discretion of the umpire. Rules are the guidelines used but the ultimate say goes to the umpire involved in the situation. Douche move for someone that claims to be an umpire to not see why this is bad.
