I wonder if historians one day will consider The Pill to have been a civilization-killing singularity.

The fertility rate in the U.S. dropped to an all-time low in 2024 with fewer than 1.6 children being born per woman, federal data released Thursday shows. The U.S. was once among only a few developed countries with a rate that ensured each generation had enough children to replace itself — about 2.1 kids per woman. But it has been sliding in America for close to two decades as more women are waiting longer to have children or never taking that step at all.

Divorce court/rape killed it.

Meanwhile the dregs of society are still popping them out like it's nothing. We need an initiative for hard working middle class families to have kids. As it is, only the super poor or super rich can "afford" to have kids and the middle class continues to get squeezed for it.

My broke arse can barely afford to take care of myself.

Too expensive to have a lot of kids these days.

I wouldn't blame the pill. I blame the education of this country convincing young women that a career and materialistic wants are more important than a family.

At some point, society decided it was acceptable, maybe even virtuous, for people to abandon the very purpose that once defined human continuity: building and raising the next generation. Now, we see people proudly celebrating being "child-free" as if opting out of legacy and responsibility is a badge of enlightenment.
And the shift in men? It’s striking. Somewhere along the way, masculinity got traded in for passive aggression and digital bickering. Instead of ambition, drive, or even desire, many are content to posture online, argue endlessly, and avoid real connection—romantic or otherwise. It's like the spark has been replaced by scrolling.

Need to incentivize high income people and upper middle class to have more kids.

You realize you aren't meeting the replacement rate with 2?

Not a problem. This country was better off when it had 180 million people vs the 330 million today.
They just use this as a pretext to import illegal aliens to further depress wages. Don’t fall for it.

I notice the report didn't have the balls to release clear stats about WHO is having the few kids being born.
