Visiting with family in Katy, Texas. Kid keeps asking me to drop a line in somewhere. Already drove 18 hours from North Carolina. Anything nearby I could try? Not up for driving very far.

Thanks in advance!

Man I haven’t been fishing since I moved to Texas 1.5 years ago.

If it’s just for the kids to wet a line give Mary Jo Peckham park. There is also John Paul Landing park north of Katy. But depending on where you are at in Katy most of these master planned communities like cinco ranch are loaded with neighborhood ponds. Just be careful some allow fishing and some don’t so do your research because the Karen’s will show up.

I would think the best bet would be neighborhood ponds. There are some signs posted but with all the ponds around I hardly ever see anyone fishing so I do wonder if they run people off.

If you don’t want to drive the neighborhood ponds are your best bet. You can fish Lake Houston from shore, as well as Sheldon Lake. I’ve also caught from the Chocolate Bayou boat ramp. All of those options are probably an hour drive from Katy.

You can catch fish in every neighborhood pond in the Houston area. There are thousands of them.

What about a guided crappie trip? It’s worth the drive to Rayburn but maybe Conroe or Livingston

Surfside Beach / Jetty is about an hour or so straight south from Katy (google it), ya'll could fish a little and the kids could see the beach/ swim/ play.

You can always get some action on the jetty

It isn't very nice but if the weather is nice it's ok.

Check out WILD LIFE YouTube. That guy catches fish in every drainage canal in the Greater Houston area. Good luck!

A lot of subdivisions have retention ponds. My buddy who lives in Cypress strokes the bass in those ponds. And some are pretty hefty. Use a drop shot if you are an adult. Ponds also have sunfish and catfish. Good luck!

As suggested, try the community detention ponds/amenity lakes. The Cinco Ranch beach club lake had a 10 lb bass caught a few years ago. Bridgeland lakes are stocked. Alot of the culvert crossing bridges in these communities are crappie hot spots. Good Luck. Its going to be hot.

Thanks for the suggestions.

We hit a nearby lake in a park and Peckham, and then they boys talked me into driving to Seawolf Park. Almost did the Jetty.

Didn't want to fish in neighborhood ponds for fear of offending the residents.

Thanks for the suggestions!

How did you do at Seawolf. Its been a while since I've fished there. Some friends went last weekend but didn't catch anything.

Cinco Ranch Beach Club Bream love them some hotdogs!

Bring plier/scissor for the turtles.

Caught a few 3-5 lbs Bass in there too.

He caught small stuff at Sea Wolf, but I think we had the timing wrong.

We arrived at 6:00 a.m. and left at 11:00 a.m. Got very hot.

My nephew and brother-in-law typically go in the evening, fish till midnight, sleep till early in the morning, and fish again.
