Training Camp Day 1 Recap

Saints camp is officially underway, and while the first practice was short, it delivered plenty to talk about.

Spencer Rattler took all the first-team reps and looked sharp — clean, decisive, and accurate in both team drills and 7-on-7s. Tyler Shough will get his shot with the ones tomorrow after a mixed outing today.

On defense, Jordan Howden lined up next to Justin Reid, and Terrell Burgess flashed in coverage. Rookie Jonas Sanker also saw action. Julian Blackmon hasn’t joined the team yet but will be in the mix soon.

Alontae Taylor worked in the slot, with Kool-Aid McKinstry and Isaac Yiadom outside. At DT, Bryan Bresee and Davon Godchaux led the first group, with Khalen Saunders making one of the best defensive plays of the day.

Chris Olave stood out again with a highlight grab in 7-on-7s, and Blake Grupe went a perfect 5-for-5 on field goals.

Day 2 tomorrow — and the QB battle is just getting started.

Kinda expected considering. We will see where they are after at least the first preseason game

Even is Shough closes the gap I doubt it will ever be enough to be a significant upgrade over Rattler. We need to see some live action but I’m guessing by October most of you that think Shough is a franchise QB will be regretting we didn’t take a player who could plug and play.

I really think rattler ends up starting first game
No reason to throw shough to the wolves early
Rattler gives you best chance to win some early games

Same here. Ratt has the early advantage and likely the safer bet to start with. Tyler will get his chance during the season if he starts on the bench. And these six weeks till first game will go by quickly for him.
I've seen this QB situation before where both QBs played all year with neither knowing who was starting week to week. Hope we avoid that.

Sure and many others college and pro.
Also I should have used the not this as we don't know how this year will unfold.
Fried some meat pies and drinking some PBR. So so far so good this year lol

I think you run the risk of splitting the players when you bounce back and forth with your starting QB's. Would not be surprised if the competition ran through the first few games though.
