It’s been 7-8 years since I’ve had an IPA

Just had a voodoo ranger Imperial IPA, mother of frick it was disgusting. What were we thinking trying to popularize these things?

I don’t care for Coors Light. Or Miller Lite, either. But tens of millions do…

Brother, just tell yourself you don't like it and move on. Don't need to find attention about your dislike of IPAs on an anonymous message board.

I don’t like raspberries.
What’s the deal with BigBerry trying to force raspberries down everyone’s pie holes?

They've never been great. Hops are a preservative, they're not there to taste good. Americans turned the IPA line (which is almost tolerable in the UK) into moustache twisting faggotry trying to out bomb each other's noses with the smell of a clean Army barracks (Pine Sol.) If someone gets a Ghost in the Machine within about three feet of me, it'll cause random nose twisting when I catch a whiff.
But it was a bad idea to try to reintroduce yourself to IPAs with an Imperial. It has an IBU of 70. My limit is about 25.
Try using something like the Untapped app to check the specs before you order if you want to experiment again.

Sometimes it's nice to get ripped on 3 beers.

IPAs are life.
Mmmmmmm, hoppy hop hops.

1) You chose poorly.
2) It's ok to not like IPA, but IPA is a broad category nowadays. You now have Hazy IPA's that are less bitter, more filling, bigger mouthfeel, and juicier, and your west coast style IPA's, which are less malty nowadays compared to 8 years ago.
3) IMO, these are some good ones to try, that you can get locally (in Louisiana)
- Lone Pint Yellow Rose IPA - Hazy IPA but isn't cloying or heavy like typical hazies. It's at a reasonable 6.8% ABV.
- Sierra Nevada Pale Ale - The classic and categorized as a pale ale, but it's bitterness levels are more IPA in comparison nowadays. The key is to get as fresh of a can/bottle as you can. The older the bottle, the less nuance and grapefruit that comes through
4) I've shifted to mostly lagers nowadays. My favorite style used to be IPA's and sours, now it's pilsners and Helles. Pilsner gets you hop bitterness without the full feeling from an IPA along with subtle notes of bread/cracker. And when i talk pilsners, not what miller light calls a pilsner. Legit german or czech style pilsners. If you are in New Orleans, Brieux Carre and Parleaux are making world class lagers. I try to stock up whenever i'm in town.

sounds like you decided to take one of the worst ones to justify your position. drop a fresh Jucifer, delish.

You sound like you haven't had IPA's in a long time. The IBU war is over.
Go local craft and if the brewery is worth a shite, they generally have good IPA's. However, most breweries only do hazy, which i do not prefer as much, anymore.

I've really been enjoying pretty much everything Toppling Goliath puts out, but their King Sue is the best damned beer I've had in a good long while.
It's not extremely hoppy, no back-end bite and the mouthfeel is creamy. Lovely pint.

The IPAs from 2009-2014 like Racer 5, Stone Ruination and Green Flash palate wrecker don’t even exist anymore.
A true west coast IPA is nonexistent these days.

Yeah, last I heard of Ballast Point, they sold out for $1B or so...haven't seen a beer from them in ages.

I've moved on to more pale ales than IPAs. I don't mind the hazy stuff but it feels like I'm drinking a glass of orange juice, not a beer.

LMAO.
Never liked them. Might as well take strip of a flannel shirt, some oak tree bark and some hay. Blend it up and mix with water.

Yeah, the citrus has overtaken the hop as the defining flavor. Still plenty of good non-hazies out there.

You need to try Jockomo IPA, it’s delicious

I used to love IPAs. I was a freak. One day a flip just switched and I could not stand them. East Coast or West. Didn't matter. I just hated them.
I've cut down on my beer consumption about 98% in general and only drink it at restaurants. Then it's only pilsners.

I still think IPAs are a joke that went too far. Like a group was playing a trick on a friend “hey we are going to tell Billy how good this rotten orange juice is just to see if he agrees to fit in”
