Would USC not have been better off doing something besides joining big 10?

i realize its a pussy move not to do that but i dont think they will ever be a major power in the conference located on the west coast. Feels like they will quickly fall like nebraska, (Now that ive said this they will be a dynasty)....
But if they went the IRISH route which basically assures them a playoff spot most years would it offset the benefit of just getting money being in the the lower half/ upper middle on a good year of the big 10? if they played a pretty easy slate like the used to and built up the usc aura like it was when they had bush and leinart that would be enough for recruiting.......i dont care if we are all supposed to be used to it now but Washington, USC, and UCLA in the big 10 is fricking stupid.

That’s a bold proposition Jamal

Only thing people care about is money.

The travel would still be an issue in the ACC even if the competition isn't as strong.
Best move would have been to stick around and keep the PAC-12 intact. Second best would be to lead the formation of a new Pacific conference with BYU, Boise, UNLV, and Air Force, and if Cal and Stanford don't like it they don't have to join.

you do realize there are more to Universities than sports, booze, broads, etc.
joining the big10, for any major university, especially those with major research departments is a gold mine. its a billion+ dealio, and everyone shares their papers and work.

Is there really more academic collaboration between members of the same conference? I had no idea.

They won't have far to fall to reach that level. They haven't truly been in national contention for a national championship in years.

The best move would have been firing that con of a Pac12 commissioner and trying to elevate the conference
I don’t think they would be successful as an Indy

In the current landscape, playing in a weak Pac 12 would almost certainly lead to more success for both LA athletic departments, even if they weren’t making as much as they stand to make in the B1G.

Would we all be better off if you quit posting?
I believe so.

College football is a national sport and there's no other way they would have gotten more money. The SEC wants to stay a regional Southern conference, so the SEC was not an option. They most likely wanted to keep the Pac 12 together, but the money being part of a national conference minus the South was far too good.
Plus, they keep their rivalry with UCLA and Notre Dame and get to play Ohio State, Penn State, Oregon, Washington. With NIL and the 20 million to share it's naive to think that CFB is still a regional sport.

Yeah. I wish Texas would have taken Oklahoma and a couple of little brothers with them to the PAC when Aggie told them to eff off.
It would have made things better all around.

Agreed but there would have still been problems with several members (mainly Cal and Stanford) ratfricking everyone else.
There are so few teams in the west considered to be good programs that shutting schools out over academics severely limited their talent pool.
If the original plan of bringing in Texas, OU, Colorado, and two other schools had succeeded, they potentially get a TV contract that pays off and the conference survives.
That getting shitcanned because Cal and Stanford were blocking the “little brother” schools like Okie State and Texas Tech was a massive lost opportunity.

Those two never should have had the power they had
Especially Cal
Stanford has had success - lots of it - in sports (although smaller ones mainly)
Cal is not serious about athletics
