Google “Charles Barkley Galveston Beach” and you’ll get your answer.

Damn. Texas beaches are that bad? I just was considering it because they're a days drive from where I live.

South Padre Island, imo.

North Padre isn't awful either.

Brown water with decent sand, not white sand. Be prepared to see vehicle traffic on many but not all beaches. Can be convenient but also brings out lots of lowlifes.
Where will you be that’s an hour from the coast? TX coast is rather long.

Speaking as a Texan who grew up going to Crystal Beach and Galveston and has been to Padre a couple of times, go somewhere else. I'll never forget the first time I went to Pensacola and saw how nice those beaches were and realized I had been lied to.

Exactly this.
For all intents and purposes, Port Aransas is the Destin of the Texas gulf coast, and Cinnamon Shores is the Texas equivalent of 30A. Neither are as nice as their Florida counterparts.

I live in Texas, grew up in Louisiana and been to a Texas beach maybe 3 times in 64 years. If you like Florida beaches, you will be extremely disappointed in Texas beaches. High tides, dirty water and dirt sand. I would avoid at all costs. Just like I would not go to a beach on Louisiana, I would not go to a Texas beach expecting sand.

Texas beaches are fine if you want to rent a beach house, drink coffee on your porch listening to the waves, and book a charter fishing trip or three.
If you're looking to put your toes in the sand, go somewhere else.

Cinnamon Shore is the best we got for you homie.
If you’re gonna spend the money and effort…just go to the Alabama beaches or 30A.

Guess I'll just stick to Florida then

Port Aransas isn’t terrible

None of the beaches in Texas with the exception of SPI are worth a shite. Go to 30A. Much more developed with more restaurants and attractions for kids if you have family.

Texas isn't a place to visit if you're interested in the beach. Go to Alabama or Florida.
People here like to criticize Alabama beaches but they're nice, especially in June. I personally prefer Gulf Shores over Destin for the overall experience. Destin's water is superior but way, way too crowded and expensive.
Just my $.02
