TJ just got a 3 yr 123 million extension.

Chase Young career stats 22 sacks

TJ Watt just 2021 sacks 22.5

Last year, TJ had 27 qb hits. Chase had 21 qb hits.

Chase is still the lesser player but he's not horrible value. IF healthy, his sack numbers will be better for us.

Plus Bo Davis is known for getting the most out of his players. He will have Chase Young converting those pressures into sacks in 2025. Not sayng he will turn into TJ Watt but I think he could be close to prime Cam Jordan.

Prime cam Jordan was a 12-15 sack guy who also was a top 5 run stuffer and attacked passing lanes only bested by jj watt.

Chase young ain't that dude without any new pass rushing moves.

To say that Chase Young doesn't have the physical ability to play that well is a lie. He had 21 QB hits while usuing a bull rush almost exclusively last year. He is big, long, and extremenly athletic. Will he ever reach those heights? IDK, he probably won't ever be as good against the run. But he definitely has the physical tools to do it.

Geauxldilocks still thinks the team should be sold, get out of here with any amount of positivity.

Nobody questioned his physical capabilities - that's why he was drafted where he was. But this far in his career and no other move aside from bull rush is worrisome

Dude’s a 2nd overall pick that’s been in the NFL for five years on 3 different teams. When you are still talking about potential at that stage, that means he hasn’t done squat.

He’s got the same or less sacks than Darell Taylor and A.J. Epenesa who were drafted late 2nd round of the same draft. He had less sacks than Bresee last year. He was like the 50th edge player in sacks last year. And we know his run defense is terrible.

Looks like Tarzan. Plays like Jane.

yeah, definitely doesn't get after it on every play.

doesn't make the Saints signing him a bad one but who else are they getting for what they want to do schematically?

Sometimes you just get what you put in.

Talking about the organization taking a flier on him last year to begin with.

the problem is the Saints will most likely be playing from behind the majority of this season and teams will try and run it at a unit that couldn't stop shite last year on the ground.

Young's speciality is pass rushing.

Love remembering posts like this when people start complaining that we aren't tanking enough for a higher draft pick

Young was about as "cant miss" as you can get in the draft, with comparisons to Julius Peppers, and yet he hasn't done squat in 5 years

They were a pick away from getting Joe Burrow. Process seems sound enough

Bo Davis will teach him moves and unlock his potential. I am a big Bo Davis believer.

apples to oranges

JAG with some upside vs all-pro and lynchpin of the defense. Every team needs Chase Young type players due to the salary cap.

the point is that people thought we were paying chase young close to elite monies for a guy that has mediocre production. The point is that his money is not even close to upper end premier free agent defensive end money and yet we still have a good possibility his production can be pretty solid considering.

My point is that his production is not pretty solid. I seriously hope his play improves and he balls out this year. But if you’re counting on Chase Young to be “the guy” who makes a defensive impact, you will end up like the 2024 Saints defense.
