2.5 billion builds you a small refinery, LNG plant, Power plant, chemical plant.

Not a renovation.

Someone needs to dig into.

I’m gonna be slow to judge this because of the insane cost for cyber security, counterterrorism measures, technology etc. that the FBI building probably has built into it

From my understanding it is a rooftop park (which may include a bar). Guess they don't want to mingle with the peasants.

FBI building?

This is in reference to the Fed Reserve buildings aka Marriner S. Eccles Building and Federal Reserve Board-East building.

The construction project plans for renovating the Federal Reserve's HQ were adopted in 2017 under Fed Chair Janet Yellen and President Donald J. Trump.

Oops. What was the budget approved back then? Since he's focused on the cost, that's where we need to look for the best hypocrisy.

Originally $1.9 billion which is still too much but a 32% overrun on top is ridiculous.

Plus the nature of the upgrades:
quote:

According to planning documents, the upgrades extend far beyond basic repairs or security enhancements, and explicitly include all of the outlined features. The documents explicitly include rooftop terraces designed to attract urban wildlife, custom elevators opening directly into private dining suites, extensive white marble finishes, new water features, and a private art collection.

$1.9 billion.

The cost increases resulted from construction being halted during the worst of the COVID shut downs and the resulting increases in labor and materials costs post-Covid.

They also discovered widespread asbestos and toxic lead based paint during the demolition of the existing buildings which were built in the 1930's.

The poisons from the lead paint had seeped into the soil under the building which required excavating and disposing of that contaminated soil and replacing it.

All of those were not planned for in the original cost.

AH, got you, I misread and thought it was the FBI building where I could actually understand that there might be some insane costs involved
