I didn’t realize NYC was in the midst of a skyscraper boom. These things are hideous and so out of place.

Central Park Tower

One57

220 Central Park South

56 Leonard Street

And this ugly thing is proposed for Park Avenue.

I’m not just shitting on NY. There’s plenty of others in Austin, Chicago, etc. Art deco would shite all over this stuff. Don’t even get me started on that monstrosity in Oklahoma City.

The first ones I’ll agree with. The park avenue one looks nice, imo

The is by far the best looking out of everything you posted. They'll frick it up between the planning and building, though.

In NYC finishing up a long weekend and definitely more of a fan of the Empire State Building and Chrysler Buildings. Class never goes out of style. The rest of the city is a fast paced dirty shite show but I love it nonetheless.

New York’s skyline peaked in the 30s and 40s and went downhill when the giant lego block buildings started coming up in the 60s. The all glass skyscrapers look Temu.

Looks like they just stacked a bunch of shipping containers. Kind of like this:

NYC is building some really tall ones. But yeah they all look like arse.

Fun fact: skyscrapers are built to allow for a small degree of "sway"

I used to work near the top of a 70+ story building, and the elevators would slow down on windy days because otherwise the elevator car would hit the sides of the elevator shaft due to the building's sway.

Maybe, but people are already paying $10-100 mil for each of those new apartments. Good luck finding anyone willing to pay twice as much for a 1/4 of the square footage to live in a new art deco build.

I don't think any of the ones you posted were "ugly". Maybe the one that is staggered looking.

And would look out of place as hell. I love art deco too.

What are some of your favorite buildings?

I think the single ugliest skyscraper in NYC is 111 West 57th Street. Second ugliest is the “needle.” They represent a new class of skyscrapers called super skinnies.

I think the World Trade Center is the best new skyscraper in the city.

Jenga tower minutes before your aunt decides to join the game (3 bottles of wine into the party).

The last one is actually nice. Mid century look that looks more classy.

My first thought when I saw this thread, recent road trip across the country and way too much brutalist architecture in this country.
