If a player gets drafted tonight, he is 99.999999% gone

Just saving the need for annoying threads...
The numbers are being negotiated before the draft starts. You don't want to waste a pick on someone you can't sign.
Frey is gone, Eyanson is gone, all of the high schoolers are gone who have been picked so far.
Carry on...

short of a failed physical

So you’re saying there is a chance.

So does this mean we are getting Sine and McKenzie since they weren’t drafted tonight?

Hoping a couple guys drop out of the draft since they didn’t go in the first three rounds. Last year Arambide dropped out after day 1.

Gotta dodge some more rounds.
Also, it's more about money than rounds. Its far more likely for a late-round pick to sign if a team saved enough money than an early-round pick not to sign.

Not really. Once the team picks a guy, regardless of a physical, if he doesn’t sign, they lose that slot value from their signing pool. They get it added back next year, but no team is forfeiting 800-850K in pool money on a chance.

I don’t really understand how the money works. Can teams just pay a crap ton over slot or short a player at will? What are the limitations?

Every pick has a value associated with it. Add all of your picks, and that is your budget. If you save money on one pick, you can use it on another.

Thanks. So the Mariners saved 700k on Anderson and they can use that 700k for another player/players? Makes sense

according to MLB.com, four players in the top 10 rounds did not sign after the 2024 MLB draft, including three from the first three rounds: supplemental second-round picks Tyler Bell (Tampa Bay Rays) and Chris Levonas (Milwaukee Brewers), and third-round pick Ryan Prager (Los Angeles Angels). These were the only top-3 round picks to not sign in the 2024 MLB Draft.
Historically, this number has been quite low:
2023: 1 player from the top 10 rounds did not sign.
2022: 3 players from the top 10 rounds did not sign.
2021: 3 players from the top 10 rounds did not sign.
2020: 0 players from the top 10 rounds did not sign (this was a 5-round draft due to COVID-19).
2019: 2 players from the top 10 rounds did not sign.
2018: 4 players did not sign, all were either first-round or supplemental first-round picks.
2017: 3 players from the top 10 rounds did not sign.
2016: 2 players from the top 10 rounds did not sign.
2015: 6 players from the top 10 rounds did not sign.
2014: 6 players from the top 10 rounds did not sign.
2013: 8 players from the top 10 rounds did not sign.
2012: 8 players from the top 10 rounds did not sign.

I remembered the Nationals drafted all seniors rounds #6-10 two years ago. Gavin Dugas was one of them. They paid all of them $20,000 bonuses and saved a bunch of money on them. They paid their 3rd round pick 2.6 million which was double his slot value. Pretty smart decision by them if you want to save money. From about rounds #12-18 all of those guys got $150K bonuses.

All of that was before college players could get paid + NIL money. I wouldnt be surprised if 15 or more draftees did not sign this year.

If prager was a 3rd rounder last year, boy did he bet on himself and lose.

That shouldn't be allowed , should protect the kids with some percentage below slot threshold allowed

Baseball players make about 25-100k, and your elites (Skenes/Crews) make closer to 500k. It isn't football with many making millions.

Yes, this has been the case always.
