Representative Ro Khanna (D-CA) has announced plans to force a vote in the House of Representatives demanding the full, unredacted release of all documents related to disgraced financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Khanna said he will introduce an amendment this week that would require the House Speaker to bring the measure to a roll-call vote, putting every member of Congress on the record.

Newsweek contacted Khanna's team via email and House Speaker Mike Johnson via online form for comment outside of usual working hours on Sunday.

quote:

Late Saturday, Khanna posted to his X account: "Why are the Epstein files still hidden? Who are the rich & powerful being protected? On Tuesday, I'm introducing an amendment to force a vote demanding the FULL Epstein files be released to the public. The Speaker must call a vote & put every Congress member on record."

The post has since had over 432k views.

Khanna's initiative is seen as a way to hold both Congress and the Justice Department accountable, especially as the Department of Justice (DOJ), led by Trump-appointed officials, including Bondi, recently reversed its previous commitment to release more documents.

The move is also politically strategic. If Khanna's proposal is accepted, it would force a House vote on releasing the full Epstein files, allowing the public to see how each representative stands on the matter, with many praising it as a savvy political move that puts pressure on those trying to avoid scrutiny.

JHC people there are no secret files and not everything is a conspiracy.

Trump and Kash acted like there were because it would help get them elected. Now they’re gaslighting you because there never were any files.

Politicians lie. We know this.

Interesting coming from a Dem but sure, let’s get it out there and see where the DC critters stand on both sides of the aisle.

If someone voted for Trump because of Epstein files they are retarded, fwiw, nobody did. Kash hasn’t been elected to anything.

Eta: If Khanna can make it happen, sounds good to me.

Well, technically if they are not releasing the files they are, in fact, secret files.

Exactly!

They lied, now they are trying to act like they didn’t lie or that they never pushed the conspiracy theory.

They should be criticized for that.

Their responses to the criticism have not been good though.

I do agree, but it is merely a variable of an overarching theme within MAGA, the distrust of the government and its agents, the Deep State, if you will.

That was used to motivate the voters.

Pulling a complete 180 degree turn on that has caused a large problem.

This tactic by Ro Khanna could be very humorous though.

It has the potential to drag other people into the mess, making the situation worse.

What happens to the public discourse when Mike Johnson says no to the vote?

There are plenty of people who listed this as a reason to vote for Trump.

They repeated that when Bondi was giving out fake binders to influencers (until they were known to be fake).

Now that it’s clear that nothing is coming out, we get the rewriting of history to say it was never important to begin with.

Do yall just have super shitty memories?

Bunk bumped a great thread started by none other than FLTech, one of the more aggressive “let it go” posters on here.

It was loaded with the run of the mill “DC is scared” statements and even had a great meme with Bondi as a terminator and a small girl representing “People on the Epstein List” hiding from the terminator under a desk.

It is a really good read.

Epstein did not help trump get elected. That’s the most absurd thing I have read today on the internet.

This is going to be easy to vote down. They will just say they can’t release non redacted files to protect victims. Your request is absurd.

And I bet Khanna knows that.

And it will then add fuel to the fire and drag Mike Johnson into the mess.

There is no easy out here.

Absolutely, but I can guarantee that her purpose isn’t to even get a vote.

It is now a political game.

The left can pull more and more Republicans into the Epstein “conspiracy” and use it against them.

Actually I’ve been consistent with nothing was coming out.

They aren’t releasing files with world leaders having sex with underage girls.

Just never was happening and Pam bondis phase 1 bullshite just confirmed it.

I'm all for this, but let's face facts:

There's very little in DC that is actually secret.
Dems had their hands on any list for 4 years.
If Trump was on such a list, Democrats would be screaming at the tops of their lungs for it to be released. Instead, they are mainly sitting back and smirking.

This makes me believe that if there is a list (and I believe there is some sort of list), Trump isn't on it but there are likely enough others who are which would be embarrassing enough to the leadership of all sides involved (see also: MIC) to keep trying to keep this quiet.
