They keep their helmets on when greeting POTUS but remove them when they move on to greet FLOTUS.

Cotillion is still popular in the South where proper etiquette and manners is taught to middle schoolers. My niece just went to hers a few months ago

Wife and I attended a wedding shower in Fairfield Tx and every gentleman wearing a cap or hat took it off when they were introduced to my wife, definitely a Texas chivalry thing.
