This morning I broke my second Falcon Coastal. First time was a few years ago, I had a pretty big sheepshead on and wasn’t paying attention when he got in the boat. Rod bent too much and it snapped. My fault. Today though, I hooked a small sheepshead under a popping cork. Snapped the tip down to the second eye. It was not a large fish and it barely flexed before snapping clean off.

I’m not buying another Falcon rod. I bought a Waterloo to replace my first rod, should I stick with that or try something else?

Did something hit the tip where it broke at some point?

That’s normally what causes a break like that.

Not that I know of. I keep them in a buzbee rod sleeve for transporting and I’d already caught fish on it this morning.

Where are you located?

If you are near Houston or happen to be there for work or whatever stop in to FTU and look at all the various rods they carry. You can compare Waterloos to Shimanos to G Loomis to their house rods, etc……

Like bvd said that doesn’t happen to any rod unless it got hit on something against the grain of the blank, and it will happen to any rod once it does. Falcon isn’t what it used to be for a couple reasons, but this isn’t one of them and there isn’t a magic brand that’s immune to it.

Even a bait hitting the rod just the wrong way will do this.

Almost all modern blanks are very durable unless compromised. If you had fished with it before and caught fish, or even fished with it a while that day and caught fish/loaded the rod then the breakage is a result of misuse.

In about 38 years of fishing I have broken two rods. Both were Falcon Coastals.

I know this isn't sexy but I still fish with the Allstar classics. They hold up man.

I’m a Waterloo guy. Their Salinity is the best bang for your buck rod IMO

Temple Fork Outfitters
G. Loomis
Unless u have a custom rod maker in ur area. I have a couple of Swampland Rods before Lance moved to Laffeyette.

Custom rods now a days are the same price for a good rod you will be buying else where. Plus I can pick colors and what u want and have it tailored to what you want/need.

Lance also made me a bunch of rods for bent butt for offshore fishing.

Kistler makes a nice rod these days. Look at the KLX series.

I have a KLX punching rod that hasn’t given me any problems. I got a custom helium made this year for flipping/pitching that I love. I had it made with all recoil guides. I did the recoils on it because I have 3 regular heliums that constantly break and bend guides. So I’d stay away from the heliums unless you custom build it with recoils.

OP, you should check out Level Rods. I started using them this year and I like them a lot. My first order with them had a 7’2 XH in it, but they accidentally sent me a 7’2 MH. I emailed them and they sent the XH and told me to keep the MH. I also have a 7’10 MH that snapped on me while fighting a real big bass at Bussey. I emailed them, sent a couple pictures, told them what happened, and they sent me a new replacement. They have really good customer service.

Waterloo Salinity is a good bet but to be fair one is almost the price of two Falcon Coastals.

I like Fitzgerald Rods however, I fish baitcast reels so can't speak for spinning rods.

Heliums are made with stainless Fuji K series frames with Alconite rings. Those are probably the most used guides on mid tier rods in the world. Theyre solid. Not sure why yours kept giving you trouble. And those frames are the same from Fazlite to SiC.

Falcon may replace under warranty. $20 plus cost to ship there. Worth a shot..

FYI.. most if there rods are back ordered at moment, and say it will be a month or so before they fill warranty orders.. blaming it on tariffs and shipping
