What's a reasonable mark-up % for parts supplied by your repair man?

Let's say he's fixing your washing machine or AC, etc... If he goes and picks up a part from the supplier and brings to your house, what % markup do you think is fair?

what would you charge if it were your business?

Fuel, miles, insurance, time at his normal rate, plus profit.
Going to get to 100% real quick.

Is he providing a warranty for the part and repair work?

He should easily be able to charge time and materials plus 50% markup for OH&P. But the bottom line is that he should be free to charge enough to show a profit for the company and himself for the time that he spent on the job (particularly if it adversely affected other scheduled jobs for that day).

Shouldn’t mark up parts. Make the profit in labor.

20-30% is standard markup
You have to factor his fuel and time per hour going to AND coming back.
$100 part and he marks it up to $125.
$25 covers his hour round trip and $10 worth or fuel.
Now if he's charging you his regular hourly rate on top of that........

25%
If you're a larger customer that we deal with all the time 15 - 20%
If I tell you when you call that we are swamped and I can't get to you in a timely manner but you insist that you're fine with waiting, probably 33% because i already know you're going to be calling me asking when i'm going to take care of your stuff that I already told you I was to swamped to take care of in a timely manner.

Not sure in that scenario but auto repair shops run about 100% on parts.

When my wife was pregnant for our first back in 2008, she got home with groceries and noticed the light wasn't on in the fridge. She changed the bulb and that didn't work so she called me. I told her to go to the breaker box and check to see if it tripped. She said she wasn't doing that and was calling a repair man.
She got the number of a guy from her grandmother. She called and the guy legit lived a few houses down from us. He said he would be over in a minute. He arrives, walks in, opens the fridge, closes it, goes to breaker box, flips on breaker, opens fridge, sees light on and writes my wife a bill for $120.

Question for you: Will you still do the work if the customer supplies the needed parts?

I'm interested to see how you think the "mark up" math is done to reach this hypothetical price.
