Calling the USMNT old timers '02 WC

Im a nerd and rewatched the US vs GER game.
I was 17 at the time and this was the first WC i had access to watch most games.
Was this the best USMNT ever?
I always remembered the Frings handball on the line, but what about the soft as shite foul called on Lewis for the German goal?
I always thought this was our chance to make a final and it was robbed. After re-watching I still do.
Thoughts?
Also those half mesh jerseys were horrible.

I always remember thinking for a splitsecond that Tony Sanneh's header didn't go into the side netting and that we had tied it up in the 89th minute or whatever it was.
I also wonder how often does Claudio replay his midfield shot with Kahn out of the box.

They gave the best performance of any US team ever at the WC IMO with the one slip up against Poland. They played harder than any other team that I can remember as well. There was a lot to love about that team. I'm still bitter about the no call on the handball against Germany. VAR catches that today.

Knowing FIFA, VAR would have said his arm was down in a natural position.

Watching us 2-0 Mexico in the middle of the night.

I've seen them play since Italy 1990 and it was the best combination of talent, cohesion, and coaching. As you stated, that handball changed everything against Germany. They go down a man, most likely we score the pen, and then we push for a winner.
It was hard to imagine at the time 1 upping the feeling I got after the US beating a figo/Rui costa/conceicao (Sp?) led Portugal but beating Mexico sure did. Bruce throwing out a 3 man back line was a master stroke and Eddie Lewis was picking passes like Montana in his prime from LWB. Young and not knowing better, Landon and Run DMB went at some of the best fullbacks in the world with their crazy pace not scared one bit.
Damn I miss that passion and team.

Everyone talks about Howard and his performance against Belgium (and rightfully so) but I believe Friedels performance all tournament was the best I've ever seen a US keeper play. He made some unbelievable saves

We played so well against Germany. Kahn won the golden ball that tournament, and that may have been his best performance.
