Is the full self drive legal in Louisiana?.

Anyone with experience with it recently. Is it an option for old people who don’t want to drive anymore. And maybe shouldn’t be driving anymore.

FSD has no problems cruising in the passing lane, so it'd feel real natural to old people.

I can’t wait till the technology improves and fully self driving vehicles are required on all public roads.

FSD is great. My wife has trouble with her vision at night, so much so that she has refused to drive at nice since her college days. She now drives at night willingly with FSD.

However, it’s till supervised and while I’ve never had a critical disengagement, I have had to take over to get into driveways or entrances. I recommend it to everyone.

The term you are looking for is “unassisted full self driving”. Not legal yet in Louisiana.

Can't speak for the legality. However, yes, it's quite good and probably one of the biggest use cases would be for older drivers.

The issue I could see though, I imagine the learning curve for all of the Tesla tech/user experience/driving style might be daunting for older drivers.

Great point about the tech.

Mom drives fine but slow. Dad has always driven like a maniac, still does. Neither drives at night anymore.

They about to buy a new non-Tesla., seems to me that the FSD feature is a must have, if it works.

It does. Only time I drive without it is to play with the acceleration.

Newest versions work pretty well. If anything I think they can be a bit on the aggressive side trying to pass people and it wanting to be a left lane hog. I think it would be a solid driver assist for an old person. But it’s not really automated driving. It’s close but it’ll kick you out sometimes and you need to stay engaged.

Thanks.

Understand about assist v auto. If auto was available, I’d buy one.

They are buying a car, so one way or the other they plan to keep driving for a while.

About a month ago I took a trip as a passenger in my brother's Model Y in full self driving mode. 45 minute drive each way on highways and downtown areas. I was pretty amazed at the accuracy and fluidity and the computer's reaction and awareness of surroundings, and the ability to track and react to pedestrians, vehicles- even a passing train which we had to stop for and let pass for 15 minutes. I still don't fully trust it- but my experience in real time has left me impressed with the possibility of it.

I still don't care for the experience of it however-just looking at an Ipod and nothing else on the dash is not what I consider driving. I don't know that I'll ever get over that.

To answer your question about older drivers, I truly believe it boils down to their computer proficiency and ease of operation. If you haven't embraced and integrated with modern technology I don't think it's the answer...yet.

Tesla FSD is excellent and a better driver than 99% of the people on the road. And yes, it is legal

They are testing unassisted FSD in Austin right now. Not sure when it will be available elsewhere.

I test drove an X recently, and I was blown away at how awesome the whole experience was from a love to drive perspective.

I admittedly was a pretty big anti-EV guy, but that test drive changed my mind.

The FSD was a little unnerving at first, but I cannot believe how far they've come with it.

And holy shite are those cars fast. I felt like a caveman going back to my POS truck. I was fully spoiled by the tech, the ride, etc.

If they ever fix the distance, I'm in.

Thank you for at least trying one. Most people have an opinion and haven't even walked by one then use 10 year old memes as their arguing points

Either that or the infrastructure gets better. Took a drive in the truck with FSD and was amazed. Wouldn’t want the truck but the tech is insane.

I'm a convert. It's hard to describe, but I was almost depressed going back to my truck. It just feels clunky now.

The minimalist side of me loves Tesla for that reason, maybe others like all the buttons and stuff. I really liked the screen and the idea that that's the only thing I needed to control it.

I take lots of trips, which is my only real concern, though I briefly tried to trip planning and thought that was really nice. It tells you where to stop and charge.

Again, overall the experience was just something I wasn't expecting. I don't know if any other EV's are like this, but Tesla nailed the driving experience.

Now, when I drive home today, I'm gonna be extra upset again after talking about this.
