U.S. President Donald Trump Thursday stateside announced a 35% tariff on Canadian imports, starting Aug. 1, citing Ottawa retaliating with tariffs against Washington.
“Instead of working with the United States, Canada retaliated with its own Tariffs,” Trump said in his letter to Mark Carney, prime minister of Canada, posted on Truth Social.

All I care about: does maple syrup count as an agricultural good?

I wonder about lumber. The US buys a ton of lumber from Canada and this could further hurt housing prices.

This should wake up Carney. He needs to get to the table and seal the deal

So basically he's giving one of our 2 neighbors a way to save face.

I'm going to have to agree with you, as much as I don't want to. Despite what the Constitution says about tariffs, Congress willingly ceded that power a long time ago. If Congress wanted to force the issue, they could, but because of gerrymandering and awful primary processes, we have a congress that only represents 20% of their constituents, left or right.

Trump should get rid of the pogey boats

Wish we’d do this with Asian countries. Tariffs on tropical fruits are flat out dumb.

They aren't even hiding it anymore.
NASDAQ futures start *aggressively* selling off at 7:52 PM (green circle) for no reason whatsoever.
Trump announces tariffs on Canada, Europe, and the rest of the world at 8:06 PM (blue circle).
NASDAQ bottoms *4 minutes* later at 8:10 PM (red circle).
You don't even need room temperature IQ to figure out what is happening over here.

It’s a violation of the non delegation doctrine for starters

Hmm, I would like one of our pro-tariff scholars to explain to me why this is exempted, because according to them, tariffs:
1) Do not affect or increase prices in any shape, form or fashion
2) And if they do, Canadian O&G producers will simply eat the tariffs
3) And if they don't, we can drill more domestically
4) and in the meantime, we generate billions and billions in revenue that doesn't affect the economy at all.
Seems like applying tariffs to Canadian O&G would be the IDEAL commodity to tariff so that we can all see the brilliance of them.
