Has Texas country seen a bigger sellout than Eli Young Band?

Jesus Christ, these guys are horse shite now. When they first hit the scene, they were great. Everything started falling apart after the “Live at the Jolly Fox” album and when they released “Jet Black and Jealous”

Nope
Typically the act starts out authentic and kind of stays there, or they start out radio-seeking and end up bro country/Nashville very quickly (and thus they never really gain a considerable Texas following in the first place)
I can't recall one like EYB where they felt legit before converting
- LOL I just looked at Wikipedia and it outright says "Level is their last Texas country album before becoming a Nashville act."

Sounds like Parker McCollum is headed down that shitty trail.

Don’t forget about how the Zach Brown Band and The Band Perry suicided their careers.

Came here totally expecting to see Cody Johnson be mentioned.
Parker Mccullum is 100% Nashville now, which is fine if you’re into that.
Koe dipped his toe for a hot second.
They all do it tho if they can, just a matter of time. Even RRB and CCR tried and came back to Texas.

Me too. I get it, but I don’t like it.

Cody is alright. Wouldn’t go out of my way to listen to him, fits into “background car music” at this point IMO
About to go see Koe Wetzel in a little over an hour, I’m in Chicago through August and bought a festival ticket just to see him. Despite his one album name, not a sellout
I am a little concerned his top played/selling song is a sellout song though

Eli Young Band has never been great live either. I've seen them three times now and was underwhelmed pretty much every time. Best show was actually last year at a small outdoor venue here in Charleston.

What did ZBB do?

They were descent until they released The Owl album. That thing was atrocious and did a 180 when it comes to their sound. It turned a ton of people off. Then he released a solo pop album next. To me they were never the same as their “chicken fried” days. They had a good thing going and blew it all in the name of artistic expression.

quote:“Six Dreams One Dream,” “A Different Day”, “Cowboy Like Me,” and even “Gotta be Me” were fantastic. To me he changed from “Ain’t Nothing to it” moving forward. His old stuff is so much better.
