Any of you have advice on how to enter the remote work world? Strong cpu software, business, & finance background.

Interested in moving away from Louisiana. Possibly another country, but wish to work for a U.S. based company.

Just search your desired job title on LinkedIn, Indeed, etc…

Obviously some fields are more likely than others to have remote opportunities.

You should know if you are dealing with sensitive information some companies will not allow you to work remotely outside of the US.

Prepare for crippling depression. Post-COVID remote work has not been good to the mental well-being of any of my friends.

Men should get up and go to work everyday. They weren’t meant to loaf around in pjs on the couch.

Many positions saying “remote” are often hybrid positions. Not fully remote.

The countries I have interest in offer benefits for XPats & 0 taxes if income is from outside the country they.

I understand that you may want to work from another country, I’m just telling you from my anecdotal experience, some companies will not allow you to perform your job duties while in another country.

Usually, in my experience if there is any sort restriction on where you can live it is listed in the application. Some companies won’t hire people located in X state, or will require that you live in Y state.

Asking for roles that suit your preferences/experience is a difficult thing to just ask on a forum, at any given time you might be qualified for 20 jobs on LinkedIn that you would take. It's unlikely that one of us here know the 20 jobs when there's 330 million people in the US.

A coworker went to work for a fully remote company 2 years ago and he's asking to come back. I'm convinced that a hybrid schedule is not so bad. It's funny to see people think that remote employees exclusively sit around with their computer on their fat belly on their couch. Kinda shows who has actually worked remote vs. who has a perception of individuals. My job is remote. When I work from home, it's rare that I don't shower and put on presentable clothing. Sure it's shorts and a t shirt or a polo frequently, but I'm not sitting around drinking diet coke and eating cheetos while I should be working.

Probably has more to do with your friends than the work. I’ve worked remotely for 14 years.

Be careful what you ask for. Remote work is a drudge. Lots of distractions around the house will have your mind on ANYTHING other than your work. That's not saying that you're incapable of focused discipline, but the temptation is still there. That's the big caveat.

Next - When you work remote your hours are what other people and circumstance dictate they will be. You will invariable be responding to issues across multiple time zones and it will have an effect on your general happiness.

Remote work is also pretty uneventful and uninteresting as the social interaction with others on the jobsite or in the office will be missing and the lack of that interaction does have an adverse effect.

With those caveats out of the way, if you have a strong background in software, business, and finance, one area that is indeed hiring remote employees is agriculture. Particularly companies like AGCO in Duluth, GA and Trimble Navigation (Ag Division) in Westminster, CO. The need software trainers and trouble shooters to help farmers and large ag companies run their equipment in the field for planting, water management, pest control, fertilizing, and harvest which are all controlled by hardware and software and are tracked and controlled by GPS.

AGCO in Duluth also has a finance department that utilizes remote employees, if training others on ag software isn't your cup of tea.

I'm certain that John Deere, IH, Case, New Holland, and a few others have similar positions, but AGCO and Trimble are the two with whom I am most familiar.

Consider looking them up online and seeing what kind of opportunities may exist there. They usually post openings online on their websites.

I hope you find what you're looking for in this regard.

Your friends must be in their late 20s or early 30s.

If your job predominantly requires your brain, it can be done by AI (if not better yet, won’t take long).

Best to improve quality of your life by skipping commutes, dry cleaning and over priced coffee for your Cush office job by WFH…en rte to the inevitable human reservation where humans will be relegated in AI-led world. That or AA mtgs. Whichever AI dictates.
