ER • Complete Series Re-Watch

We just completed a re-watch of all 15 seasons of ER (Thank to MAX suggesting it after every episode of The Pitt).
Some notes:
• It seems like the early seasons made a point of taking likable characters and taking them down to make them less likable. (Doug Ross going off the rails and abandoning his pregnant girlfriend, Carter turning to drugs, Mark Green hiding his illness from his wife and daughter). And as the new cast came in, they seemed to bring in unlikable characters and tried to make you love them (Dr. Pratt, Dr. Morris, Dr. Banfield).
• Some characters would disappear for a season or two, and then suddenly a nurse you hadn't seen in a year would walk in with a line.
• I had no idea that Neela became a major character for the last half of the series.
• The Africa episodes went on too long. The series had plenty of shark-jumping moments, but the doctors rotating in and out of Africa was a bit much.
• The series would replace side-characters not only in the new episode, but they would reshoot previous scenes to use in the "Previously on ER" intros, making you wonder if you missed an episode.
• I didn't know that two of the main doctors ended up settling in Baton Rouge at a fictional teaching hospital that had students and interns from Tulane.
• We'd jumped out mid-series during the initial run, so we weren't around for the final season which brought back the entire original main cast and others (dead and alive). Sure it was forced and overly coincidental, but they did an amazing job with it.
• This series featured Maura Tierney and Linda Cardellini at their best.

On season 8 now on our first watch through. Started it after the Pitt. It’s still solid and this season is hitting the emotions hard. You can tell there’s a major changing of the guard. I miss the first season or so dynamics and it’s missing a lot of the medical drama that drew us in. But we’re invested so will continue.

That is 331 episodes and almost 250 hrs of run time! How do you have time to watch anything else, much less post on this message board?

quote:Well, The Pitt ended in early April, so two or three episodes a night got us through. 9p to midnight was our ER time every night. We've watched other stuff, but, yeah, it's a weird feeling to focus on one show for three months and now we're done and realizing we didn't watch the 2nd season of Poker Face and other shows we'd normally watch.

Final episode of the Pitt was April 10 - 88 days
So three episodes a day?

God she is so fine. And that accent. Whew.
Neela is one of my favorite characters .
Dr Carter is goat level though .

To this day, the episode where Lucy and Carter are stabbed and the following episode where she dies is still really hard to watch and remain in my Top 3 Devastating TV Deaths.
Pratt dying is another underrated one too.

The physician freaking out when a loved one is in danger in the trauma room happened so often that it was almost a cliche. “Doctor, you need to step back and let us help him/her!”
Then Morris gets his turn and he takes it so calmly, “I trust you. You just need to be decisive.” He almost seems to be in shock. It was a nice touch, like all of the personal trauma patients led to that moment.

Darfur was a big deal. Also it made Luka and Carter better.

Post Katrina Louisiana shoot outs although Dennis Gant was from LSU Med School in Season 3.

I’m not chastising you for it; I’m amazed by it.

Growing up in the 90s I remember my mom watching ER every week. Thursday was the only night we couldn’t bother her. Dr. Greene dying is what I remember most from watching it in passing as a kid, sad stuff.

I had no idea John Stamos was in ER.

I did the same thing, but had to take a break at Season 10. The writing really went downhill. It's still a solid show.
