When I played 100 years ago we always had the slowest/fattest kid at catcher (sometimes first) but the rest seems pretty accurate.

We always had a tough kid at catcher. He was always one of the top 3-4 hitters, too.

I think that’s an accurate characterization of the positions.

Best kid....used to be Pitcher and fielding 2nd base (because most kids sucked and weren't LLWS bound and 2nd base got all the late swinging fair balls).... Now kids are more skilled/play year round, so it seems there's no right side of the field shift.

First could be biggest/slowest.

The worst players play left and right field.

I had decent speed. I was in right field because I sucked at defense.

I think this isn’t really correlated to batting at all.

Our right fielder was our cleanup hitter. Great hitter and strong kid, just the slowest guy on the team by far and not a good fielder.

RF was the easiest spot to hide him.

See, we hid the girl on our team in left, same with the fat kid at 3rd....again, maybe my League sucked but LL revolved around Pitcher, Catcher, 1st base (good athlete for bad throws) and 2nd base, with Right Field being our best outfielder.

Not many batters were roping it to Left and certainly not down the line to 3rd...even bunts were all Catcher/Pitcher, 1st.

When we would go to the draft we had kids rated A - C. A possible side note on a kid could be GLM... good looking mom. So when you get to the 6th - 7th round that's when a GLM came into play.

I played mainly C-1st-2nd I don’t know what to think of this. Also played sparingly CF/RF

CSB but won the park championship on my throw from RF to C to gun the runner from 3rd

You missed gayest kid… the 39 year old redneck wearing a visor reliving his failed glory days via his son’s youth baseball “career”. You know him. He’s the one arguing balls and strikes and threatening the 16 year old umpire after ripping 4 energy drinks. His wife has monogrammed koozies for her high noons.

I mean you can’t put your worst players in the infield and expect quick innings

If not the corner outfield your only options are catcher and maybe 2nd

First base is also the position you put lefties. They can't play any other infield position or catcher. You tended to put the best athletes or kids with the best coordination and eye-hand coordination in the infield. Left is where you put the best non-infield player and center was next and the worst was right.
