Sliced ham, roasted pork, swiss cheese, yellow mustard and sometimes pickles on Cuban bread. If it's got mayo, lettuce, tomatoes, jalapenos, etc it's not a traditional Cuban sandwich. If it's made with a panini grill instead of a Cuban sandwich maker, it's not a traditional sandwich. If you make it with sweet yellow egg bread, it's a medianoche (midnight) sandwich.
The best Cuban sandwiches in Louisiana (besides my kitchen) are at a Latin supermarket in NOLA, though I'm under the impression that they only make the Cubans and not the medianoches anymore.

Deelightful Cafe in Bossier had great Cubans. But they sold to someone named Jake. Not sure if they still make Cubans.
BTW, went to Columbia Cafe in Shreveport yesterday for brunch. Food was good but waaaay too pricey. I had a Chicken Caesar and son had an omlette. Couple of OJs. Bill was 30. Service was very slow.

I lived on those things when I lived in St Pete. A good cuban is hard to beat.

Does any place in BR sell them?

Sangria on Lee drive, but they aren't at all traditional (spicy brown mustard, panini grill marks). I think Hooters offers them on and off, but again, not at all traditional.
Nearest place you're going to get a decent Cuban is in Kenner, unless you get a Cuban sandwich press and make them yourself.

Actually about 3 years ago there was a place in Laplace called Friscos deli that had a good Cuban. Its actually like dinner and a show.
You see the place is run by the old Cuban lady whose 40ish probably never been married daughter works there as the waitress. The old lady cooks. They bitch at each other the whole time customers are being served in a friendly manner.
It hilarious.
Also, they serve the BEST red beans I have ever eaten!

Glanced at their online menu.
The only thing traditional on their Cuban is apparently the roast pork and ham. They put salami, turkey, spicy mustard, mayo and (sigh) Monterey Jack Cheese. Maybe it tastes good, but it's not a Cuban.
