---starting this season, "heaves" will no longer count against a players 3pt %. It will be treated as a "team miss" and NOT a "player miss"...but IF it happens to go in...it WILL be counted as a made 3-pt shot for the shooter. Not sure why it took the NBA SO long to do this.

Should see a whole lot more "heaves" right before the buzzer this year...instead of "right after" the buzzer. A bit more exciting...when they don't delay...to insure their heaves don't count against them.

On a side note: Last season Jokic led the league, by a mile...in "heaves" going 2-22. (He just doesn't give a schit about stats) He still shot 41.7% from 3 counting all those heaves. IF the new rule had been in effect last year...Joker woulda shot 44.4% from 3...that guy is just a pretty damn good basketball player.

That is some real American type bullshyt right there. A heave is a fkn shot attempt just like layups, free throws and normal range threes. Take the shot at the risk of your own stats!!!

I find it pathetic that they have to do this so these dipshits will actually attempt half court and beyond shots.

Hate this.

If they don't want to put em up, so be it. That's on them if they value stats over team.

A few missed heaves can mean millions, tens of million on some contracts.

I completely understand, if you are as good as Jokic and it doesn't matter, sure, but if you aren't basically in the best of the best category it does matter.

With all the advanced analytics these days, I think it would be relatively easy for an agent to point out, hey my client shot 39% from 3 if you rule out his 40 half court heaves.

Naji Marshall got paid $9M a year with a poor 3 point percentage. Partly due to heaves and his own consistency. Point is, he still got paid bc he's obviously a solid basketball player no matter what the 3 pt percentage says.

I'm sure any decent agent would mention the fact that Naji actually shot 28.5% from 3 this past season when you remove his 0-8 on "heaves"...instead of the 27.5% he shot when those 8 shots are counted.

Bottom line...NBA is trying to get all players to make an honest effort to take (& possibly make) shots at the end of the 1st 3 quarters from beyond halfcourt when the situation arises...and not go through the silly charade of stalling & then taking the shot just after the buzzer sounds. I assume most
all NBA fans know what I'm talking about. The new rule is an easy "fix" for this problem...and every player will figure out they need to take these shots whenever possible...as there's "nothing to lose"...and they might actually make an occasional "heave". Not sure I see the problem with this new rule. NBA can use all the added "excitement it can get during the regular season...just my opinion...I COULD be wrong.

My overall point is that that no player is losing millions or 10's of millions over heaves. You generally get paid if you are a solid player, no matter what your percentages look like. Whether it's 27 to 28% or 37 to 38%, you aren't going to get paid less over being a team player.

Totally agree that counting "heaves" has very little...if any... effect on what a player is paid. This new rule is not about that...it's just the NBA trying to make their game just a bit more exciting for the fans...and eliminating the silliness that is the intentionally delayed...heave
