NEW ORLEANS — A local business said it had to shut down its free summer camp because a promised donation did not come through, leaving staff unpaid and the venue tens of thousands of dollars short.

...

The venue’s owner, Ray Bender, told WWL Louisiana on Thursday that the Asher Institute had still only paid $1,000 of the $40,000 he had invoiced for the rental of the facility for the duration of the summer.

...

WWL Louisiana spoke with Lee Anderson, the founder of the Asher Institute and Zion Williamson’s stepfather, late Wednesday afternoon. He denied that the organization had reneged on a promised payment to The Hangout NOLA.

We're you expecting a positive story to come out of New Orleans East?

Y'all aren't tired of the stench and embarrassment the dude has brought for 6 straight years? He's the only player in the league that has a negative story out about him every month. And it's not like he makes up for it with winning on the court.

This is not about him, it’s his stepdad dumbass.

If it hasn’t been obvious Zion seems to have distanced himself from him lately, probably why he has been in far better shape.

The whole family, including Z has been a disaster the entire time ( disclaimer: maybe lil Noah has behaved). All this Zion and family stuff is very connected to the overall issue with having him as the "face of your franchise, and anyone with a brain would be tired of it and want to move on from the entire situation/family.

I won't call you a dumbass, but you have been more wrong than right the past 4 years on this board. So don't get cocky, just because I hate Zion/am over Zion a little bit more than the average fan in our fanbase. Let's not pretend that Zion himself (distanced from his stepdad or not), has individually, very recently, been in an extremely negative news cycle that came of his own doing/decision making.

It's literally been 1 ridiculous thing a month (on average) for the past 6 years and it doesn't seem to be declining as he is supposed to be aging and maturing.

In this case yes, but the stepdad is enabled from Zion. Did Zion step in to make this right? No.

Another embarrassment for him and a franchise that pays him mightily for performance less than 30% of the games. Make a bad trade Dumars and get him out of here.

How do you know he’s not? He probably never knew anything about it since it’s not his foundation.

Zion gives alot of money back to the community and tries to do it without people knowing.

Umm, not really.

The biggest story that you harp on is an instathot he slept with that is scorned because he dumped her and she has been trying to ruin his life ever since. We’ve all slept with that kind of girl.

Other than that what do you have? Him having 2 kids? Him being immature to start his career and not taking workouts seriously? It seems he’s turned the corner on that part.

It is way more likely this dude made this story up than it is the father of a multi-millionaire chose to further tarnish the reputation of his stepson by not paying a mere $39,000.

If you took like half a second to read up on the story you'd see it's not made up and Anderson is the frick up in the situation.
quote:

As of Wednesday morning, Burgess told WWL Louisiana she and her coworkers had not been paid for three of the four weeks they worked at the camp. Their most recent paycheck had been scheduled for the previous Friday.

quote:

Anderson said he had spoken with city council members, and they had expressed enthusiasm for the camps. However, they informed him that the city budget for the year had already been set and could not accommodate the additional funds. He said they promised to reach out to local businesses and other city leaders to find funding.

“We just knew that somewhere down the line, if we keep tugging and keep tugging and keep tugging, the help will come,” he said.

quote:

Wednesday, some of that help did arrive. Councilmember Lesli Harris told WWL Louisiana in a statement that afternoon that Sidney Torres, owner of IV Waste, and Larry Morrow, a local entrepreneur, had pledged enough funding to keep the Dryades YMCA camp open through the original end date in August.

“Dryades YMCA has also offered to allow campers from the other locations to join their camp location. This is what community working together looks like,” the statement adds.

Damn, if he’s talking about it and can’t even come up with 40 grand, Zion must’ve cut his parents off.
