Had never seen, but based off the NYT Top 100 list, decided to give it a go.
Not trying to be controversial or edgy, but trying to understand what the big deal with the movie is? I thought it was a good movie, but to call it the best of the last 25yrs or one of the best of all time? Very confused.
Is it something you need to watch multiple times to get a deeper meaning or something?

Who knows but it was a great movie.

I agree with you 100%.
I didn’t even finish watching it cause I lost interest and turned it off when the rich family goes out of town

Great movie, lot of fun. Definitely not the greatest movie of the century. Might not even be bong’s best

Like I said, I think its a good movie, but just don't see the extreme infatuation for it.
Glad I'm not the only one.

Well you missed a lot

I agree that it was a very good movie as well. “Best” is so subjective - I don’t think it is the best this century - but I don’t think that it’s crazy to be in the discussion either.

Completely agree.
Great movie, original and well done, but don't think it deserves the types of accolades it's getting.

I saw it in theatre back when it came out, I thought it was good but overrated

It’s bad, just not as bad as Anora.

I think it's maybe his third best, but it was the best films of 2019 by a bullet, and I understand why it's most people's favorite. Edge of your seat thriller that is both crowd pleasing and complicated. Satisfying but not happy ending. Multiple incredible performances. Some of the best production design-direction-editing you could ever ask for. Big ideas and a thenatic point of view that is made very clear without coming across as preaching.

100%
It isn't my best of the century, but my all-time favorite movie is True Romance, and I doubt it is even in 1% of people's top 10.

I have no desire to watch it again.

Came away with same feeling as you OP.
It was a solid film, but the hype overrated it.
I still haven't watched it a 2nd time

You have to remember the average person that votes on those stupid award movies
They watch thousands of movies and will jump up and down if something is out of left field and diverse

I sort of want to watch this. But I have the feeling it is anti-capitalist and don’t want to waste my time if so. I l love a good story and I love allegories, but I hate anti-capitalist whiny baby I’m a victim type stuff. Wondering if anyone has a comment on this?

After watching this, and I know everything is about perception, what I took away is that when you’re that poor you’re going to do anything to try to get yourself out of that situation. The movie is called Parasite, and the main characters are leeching off of the rich family. The older couple who took care of the family before did the same. So in a way, it was about poor people leeching off of the system and leaving it worse off than when they found it.
