I have the chance to buy some face value tickets for Bethpage for a day. Was thinking I’d do the Saturday team competition.

Anyone been? How was it? What’s best way to catch the most action?

I went Saturday/Sunday to Hazeltine in 2016 and it was one of the most fun sporting events I’ve ever been too. Definitely go if you have the chance

We got there early in the morning and followed different groups all over the course. That was the Rory/Pat Reed duel and Sergio had several melt downs.

Make sure you scream “mashed potatoes” or at least “get in the hole” after a tee shot on a 683 yard par 5.

Yes went to Medinah, my tips are:

1. Arrive very early, crowds are insane!
2. Must follow groups, don't camp out and wait, especially late holes, groups may not get there.
3. Crowds are huge, difficult to get close.
4. If USA decides to choke a huge lead, it's quite depressing.
5. TV is a better watching experience, in my opinion but go once for sure.

It’s a fun environment

But it’s one of the worst sporting events I have ever been to in terms of actually trying to watch.

Trying to watch a golf tournament where there are essentially only 4 tee times is awful

Whistling Straights and Rome. Practice rounds are meh. Players do not play too much, but you do get to walk the course. Walking the course lets you figure where you want to view the competition rounds.

I got there early, walked to the ninth hole stands and waited for the teams to pass thru. Then I walked to the No.1 tee stands. Found 2 seats on the front row over the players' entrance tunnel and squatted there for the afternoon rounds to start.

TV has nothing on what I experienced. Chants, cheers, and the taunting. If you get that chance, notice the 2 "Cheer Squads"; the American Marshals and Guardians of the Cup.

Saw Thomas and Berger chug a beer on #1 Tee, since they were not playing that afternoon. Oh, they didn't bring the beer, we fans threw them a couple for our entertainment.

Went when it was at Oakland Hills. Sat front row on 1 tee to see each group tee off. Got to see each group hit approach shots into 8 green. That was the only golf I got to actually see. Atmosphere is electric (albeit we got it HANDED to us that year). Crowds were 30 or more deep so it’s tough as a spectator. But it’s worth going if you can in my opinion. Just enjoy the day!

I’d love to go to one. Closest I ever got was following John Daly, Fred Couples and Payne Stewart as they won the Dunhill Cup In 1993 At St Andrews The competition at the Ryder cup and level of national pride is amazing . Witnessing it in person would be awesome.
