If the premise is that illegals will lose healthcare coverage, will they just go to ER?

After ICE gets all this funding hopefully there isn’t hardly any illegals left

You already pay for indigent care as part of your ER bills you just don’t realize it. I can’t tell you how many people come in on a weekly basis with no insurance; probably 60-40 no insurance

Why do we pay for healthcare coverage for illegals in the first place?

Why aren't medical facilities who take federal medical funding required to report illegals?

Fix those, fix the problem.

ICE should have agents stationed at every hospital emergency room in every major city. It’s ridiculous how many illegals go there. It’s been like that for decades.

Yes, and will be greeted by ICE on the way out.

Because public hospitals can’t morally decline basic services to someone if they can’t afford it

Isn’t healthcare free in Canada? Let them go there and stay there.

Tell the hospital that they will not be federally reimbursed unless they call ICE.

They get flown out with any family members available when they leave or are released.

Why do hospitals do this? They should be made to pay something, even if it isn’t the full fare. Cash, credit card, whatever they have.

And that’s the real problem. We’re all upset about illegals getting Medicare (rightfully so) but if we remove coverage immediately, ER’s will be crushed financially. They have to go back ASP.

Oh they set up a payment plan but in general very few make payments or just move to a new area and repeat the process

Yep. They already get paid for. Whether through Medicaid or at the ER. That’s why this is a good move. Got to try to stop the bleeding. Glad to see you on board Doc.

From a federal standpoint, illegal aliens only qualify for emergency medicaid, such as labor and delivery and legitimate medical crisis. Federal emergency medicaid won't be cut and this represents less than 1% of total medicaid costs.

Federal law requires hospitals to provide emergency care to all patients, regardless of immigration status. Under the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA). Emergency Medicaid reimburses hospitals for these services.

Regular medicaid is funded by individual states and subsidized by the Federal Government. Some states allow illegal aliens access to state medicaid programs. The government is talking about decreasing federal matching funds from 90% to 80% for those states that continue this practice. Only 14 or 15 states do this, which isn't alot.

Well the reduction for those states will be made up some how, some way. Be that wholesale medicaid cuts, higher taxes, and/or higher provider rates that will ultimately result in higher commercial premiums. I doubt these states will do away with medicaid benefits for illegals.

All of this is a nice enough symbolic gesture I suppose but doesn't really amount to much more than that.

Or maybe home if we cut all the free stuff off and lean on employers to stop employing illegals.

They still won't leave. Having jackshit in the United States is a far sight better than having jackshit in shitass Mexico.

And to the part about employers. That's how you know, right there that President Trump is not a serious man when it comes to immigration and deportation.

It isn’t a stone. They all have money, iPhones, etc. Requiring $300 up front as a condition of getting service doesn’t seem unreasonable. Yes, I realize this probably isn’t kosher under existing law.
