Yep, check the travel board threads on Chicago. Tons of great places to eat there. Girl and the Goat is great. Quartino is good for italian food. Portillos is always a quick meal for dgos and Chicago beef. Purple Pig, the Publican are both good.

Other than trying the Chicago staples I would recommend MingHin Cuisine if you like Dim Sum. They have several locations around the city.

Also if you've never been to one I would recommend checking out the Mitsuwa market place. It's a really cool Japanese grocery store with a lot of interesting things and a pretty decent sized food court.

I wanted to try Frontera Grill while I was there but never made time

Agreed but I would recommend skipping because you can find these outside of the Chicago area now. I actually picked up some in Arizona last year.

The city is loaded with great optuons. Confirm what you're looking for and areas of the city your willing to travel to.

Everything you probably want is here: LINK

Happy to answer anything, specifically. That list of restaurants isn't close to exhaustive, especially because there's so much across all price points and neighborhoods.

Dinners were booked when we were last there, but we got in for lunch, and it was fantastic.

Toured Frank Lloyd Wright’s house one morning, then Lyfted over to Johnnie’s Beef for one of my most memorable meals. Ate outside at one of the tables pictured in the linked article, talking with a truck driver. Damned good sandwich, fries, and lemon ice.

Practice your order, as they describe in the article, to not slow down the line.

Since you are in Chicago you’ve got to go to Lou Malnati’s and get a pie. Get the original deep dish with the Italian beef on top. The Italian beef takes it to the next level.

Back

Unfortunately G&G was one of the worst steaks I've ever had. Will never go back.

In general I recommend skipping the normal chain tourist traps (Lou Malnatti's, Giordano's, Portillo's, etc) because there are much better places around. I'm also not a fan of deep dish pizza in the middle of summer. But up to you.

Purple Pig
Girl and the Goat (or any of their sister restaurants)
Sepia is a great entry level Michelin restaurant
Au Cheval for the burger
Three Dots and a Dash for tiki bar
Bavette for steakhouse over Gene & Georgetti.

It’s been 20 years since I went, but they had great lamb chops. Big, grain finished, American lamb. The chops were twice the size of New Zealand/Aussie lamb chops, with no gaminess due to the grain finish.

Some good recs here. I would add that Kendall college has a dining room. Run by the culinary students. Food and service was excellent and super reasonable for the quality of meal. Loved Chicago

Volare is very good. Last time my wife and I went there Jim McMahon was at the next table over from us. He decided he wanted to visit with us so he pulled up a chair with us for 15 minutes or more.

We had a family meal at Joe’s Seafood, Prime Steak and Stone Crab. It was an excellent Chicago dining experience. Big, bold, boisterous, great food and service.

We’ve eaten at Joe’s too. The Bloody Mary there is a great way to start too.
