We're going down to Mexico Beach next week from Central Arkansas. Considering leaving a day early to put in a round at TPC Louisiana. What's the best place to stay in the area?

TPC Louisiana is nowhere near downtown New Orleans and the crime.

The Elmwood area on Clearview Parkway right near the Huey P Long bridge might be your best choice near TCP. It's just across the bridge.

I consider the major hotels in the French Quarter safe places to stay. Also the ones on St, Charles Avenue in the Garden District.

The hotels on the West Bank of Jefferson Parish near the TPC are few and far between, but they are some and they are safe.

Some people on this board think that the moment you set foot in Orleans Parish there is a good chance you will never see your loved ones again.

there’s a few familiar chain hotels along hwy 90 in westwego, they are fine for a night.

Plenty of safe places to stay in New Orleans. I often stay somewhere off of Poydras for the parking and convenience. But you can stay uptown or St. Charles or the FQ and those places are fine too.

Oh, so not anywhere near New Orleans. No idea where to stay on the West Bank. I’d guess Metairie and drive across the bridge?

I stay at the Hampton Inn in Elmwood/Clearview when I go to the Zurich Classic. You'll be fine.

If the purpose is to stay a day for a round of golf, then head out; why not just stay at one of the hotels by TPC?

Drive to biloxi. TPC Louisiana is a very mid golf course

For a recreational golfer passing through the city and wanting to break up a longish trip, I'd probably suggest instead staying somewhere in the city, going to a decent dinner the night you get in, and playing a quick round at Audubon or City Park South in the morning.

It would likely be a more enjoyable experience than staying in the Westbank boonies and playing at TPC, which as you suggest is not really a special recreational type course.

Any decent in-city hotel will be less sketcy than any motel in Westwego or even Elmwood. Edited to add that none would really be particularly "unsafe."

I'd also say to ignore what I'm saying, if all you are looking to do is check off a box on playing "Tour Courses."

But it would still probably be more enjoyable staying in the city and going to dinner somewhere there the night before, and heading out to TPC, than staying in Westwego or Elmwood.

I’d rather play Audubon than TPC contingent is in good shape, I agree with you about staying in the city, grabbing a meal, and playing a quick round.

If it’s more about the golf, Fallen Oak way outclasses TPC

Seems like you guys are kinda down on TPC. Might I ask why? It was kind of a bucket list deal but I don't want to pay a huge green fee if the course isn't that great.

I mean, it’s fine. It’ll be in good shape, but it’s kind of just a boring course and there’s not much special about it. It should be in good shape, and if you’ve never played a Tour course it may be worth it to you.

But if you’ve played good golf courses, you aren’t going to be that impressed

I agree, TPC Louisiana is not worth going out of your way. Plenty of equal courses along I10 in Mississippi. Senior Tour plays Grand Bear.

You’d be better off stopping in Bham or Montgomery to a good round of golf in at one of the RTJ courses:

Stay in the 1896 o malley house. It’s a bed and breakfast and very nice. We stay there every time we go to NO. It’s no where near the nasty touristy area and is very safe. U can ride the trolley up and down canal to get anywhere u want

You can ride the streetcar along Canal or St Charles as well.
